I'm looking for games that are a blast to play without necessarily relying on deep/heavy narrative/cinematics, because I feel like I've had enough of shooters and games that take themselves too seriously.

Platform can be any from the 8bit era to the current gen.

To name a few that I played and had a blast:

Katamari Damacy
Catherine
Alien Hominid
Bully
Psychonauts
The Simpsons Game/Hit 'n Run
Mario Kart 8
Crash Team Rarcing
Guacamelee
Rayman Origins
Nintendo World Cup

A Hat in Time (Highly recommend)

Mario Odyssey

Scooby Doo Unmasked

Sly Cooper series

Jak & Daxter. (Jak II especially is good.)

Kirby Games

Megaman Battle Network games or just original Megaman

Ty the Tasmanian Tiger

That's all that comes to mind even though I'd probably be able to list many more. I'd say give some sixth generation 3D platformers a go. (Some of which I listed above.) Also more Nintendo titles are worth taking a look at.

You should try Rayman Legends too. I almost enjoy it better than Origins. The music levels are very fun.

A boy and his Blob is fun. It's more like a puzzle platformer.

I remember The Maw was very funny when I bought it for 360 a few years back. I think you can buy it for XBox One too.

Dude! Try Fleazer on steam, it's a pc, arcade game that is similar to frogger but different in it's own way. It's very addicting and fun. :)

Starbound: If Terraria and No Man's Sky had a baby. Made by the artist for Terraria. Amazing soundtrack. I'd recommend the Frackin' Universe mod with it aswell.

  • ARMS. Might want to wait for the price to drop because it's still $60 and doesn't have a ton of content, but it is a goofy, fun take on fighting games.
  • Quantum Conundrum. Designed by a former Valve employee that worked on Portal. Lighthearted puzzle platformer where you get through situations by manipulating gravity and time.
