Can you explain the draw of the game to me?

A while back my friend convinced me to buy the game, so I did and started a free membership, and started leveling and getting new ships and such. But the combat system was a little tough to understand, as were travel times to different systems, and really knowing what to do in a game.

It's a very different kind of MMO, but a lot of the elements appeal to me. I like the idea of a space-craft MMO that doesn't suck. I like the idea of progressing while not playing, though still having to invest time and mental process to really achieve anything, and I like the pacing of the gameplay.

Can someone link me to a really good beginners guide (written or video), and maybe tell me what kinds of things you do? For me, MMOs have always been "log on, kill things, get xp, log off", whereas this seems a little less linear.

I think I could really enjoy this game if I could just get a better handle on it!

Hi Essian

I've been a member of eve on and off for since 2004 and the learning curve is a bitch

I can't really suggest guides as such but would say joining a corporation is key, there are many corporations that specialise in mining ect but there are also corporations that do a bit of everything and will be a good introduction on what to do and get the best out of the game.

Hope that helps a bit
