Chrono Trigger. I enjoyed the battle system and loved that I could see every enemy before having to engage in a fight.

Well Square-Enix was conceived in 2003 after the merger of Squaresoft and Enix.

So I'm going with Final Fantasy XII (2006), since none of the other final fantasy games before that qualify. I have yet to play FF15, so maybe that one is better that XII; but I really liked XII.

Man... now I feel old. I still remember the scared feeling I got when I heard that merger was happening.....

EDIT: For the mighty Squaresoft I would probably have to do a top-ten-in-no-particular-order unless I do some serious thinking/replaying. FF6-10 + chrono games at least.

SquareEnix has created some of the greatest JRPG franchises. My favorite SquareEnix game, the only JRPG that would make my top 10 rpgs list, is Chrono Trigger.

Well, fot Squaresoft, it's Chrono Trigger and Xenogears. As for Square Enix after the merger, definitely Final Fantasy 15 right now.

Have to agree with a lot here and say Chrono Trigger.

Got it on DS and been in my main cartridge pouch for over five years with over ten playthroughs.

Never cared for Final Fantasy and I have tried enjoying them but a good RPG has to hook you in and Chrono was that game_

I'd say that it's a toss up between Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross.

Ahhh de days of old before they merge with Enix ...

I do like World of Final Fantasy, Lightning Returns and so far FFXV is good but Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI and Tactics ... so so so much better.

Dragon Warrior III on GBC is pretty much the most special game I've ever played, but I guess that was Enix before they joined Square.

Dissidia Final Fantasy... still the most unique fighting game I've ever played.

Pre-Merger:

Squaresoft - Final Fantasy IV/IX (Call it a tie, I suppose)

Enix - Star Ocean: The Second Story

Post-Merger: Final Fantasy XII

Although, honestly, this can change daily. Going back through each company's history there are gems for both. ActRaiser, Terranigma, Star Ocean, and obviously Dragon Quest on the Enix side. For Square, we all know Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger and Cross, SaGa, etc.

You could include the older games if there was a remaster done after 2003 ?

I'd say Final Fantasy IX if I can :D

@thehig1: Yeah FF9 is great. Though the game was still developed by Square without any help from Enix. Any later remasters don't actually change anything. Great game - just gotta give credit where it's due - Square; during the time when they could seemingly do no wrong and everything they touched was gold.

I say it counts, it was released on steam recently with some sort of work done to touch it up, that work done by square enix :D

I'll go with Crisis Core then

Not a big SE fan. Now Square Soft.... THAT is a company!

It would have to be a toss up.

Square Soft:

1. Xenogears (STAND TALL AND SHAKE THE HEAVENS!!! MWAHAH) And now you know why I'm a big Xenoblade X fan.

2. Secret of Mana (SNES)

3. Final Fantasy 4

4. Final Fantasy 6

5. Final Fantasy Tactics

Enix:

Honorable mention to my #1 all time Enix game: 7th Saga! So cool when you try to get a member to join you in a bar and they sometimes fight you and steal all of your runes! EPIC!

As For SE:

1. Dragon Quest VII (not sure if they were SE yet to be honest)

2. Bravely Defult

3. Final Fantasy 9

4. Final Fantasy 11

5. Final Fantasy Mystery Dungeon (Wii version)

Well, as Square Enix and since i'm not very fond of FF i'd say Deus Ex: HR. Haven't played MD yet but i'm planning to. As Square though i'd also go with the Chrono games.
