It's been a while since I played one of these games.I was wondering what everyone's favorite rts game is and why. It doesn't matter if it's old or new.

I'll start:

Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun

I played other C&C games before this one, but it was years before I actually played it. It was only this past year that I did. I liked both being able and having to take care of building a base and expanding to defeat the enemy bases. I also liked the stealth and recon missions because it was a different approach to the missions. The futuristic technology was also a plus.

The total war series. Though it would be a mix of both. The rts portion of the game are amazing.

The Stronghold franchise, Command & Conquer franchise, Lego Battles (DS) I can't get into Total War though :? I prefer castles, sieges and such.

That would either have to be Company of Heroes or Sins of a Solar Empire.

I was hoping users would give a little more detail about the games, but it's fine.

Anyway, I've watched someone play Sins of a Solar Empire. It's okay. I was thinking about checking out Star Trek Legacy. I was slightly interested when it first came out, but I didn't bother. Also interested in Command & Conquer 3 if anyone's tried that.

The "old" Command and Conquer games were marvelous. Company of Heroes, Dawn of War 1, Medieval Total War are some of my favorites.

Herzog Zwie - You controlled a transforming jet/troop transport/mech and you fought for control of smaller (indestructable) bases which dotted the map. Bases were important because they generated money, gave troops places to heal and repair and one could pick up vehicles one had ordered from them. Smaller bases could be taken over, but the enemy's main base could only be destroyed (which is of course the only way to win a match). In addition to health the fuel and ammo of one's army was also someone one had to take into account. Send an army of tanks through a sea of thick mud, they might very well run out of gas before they got to the objective. There were vehicles that could repair and refuel one's army but they were easily destroyed so one had to keep a close eye on them. I think its really strange that even makers of console exclusive real time strategies choose to emulate Dune 2 (and modern real time strategies just don't work with conventional controllers) rather than Herzog Zwie.

Never heard of that game. Sounds interesting. It's similar to the C&C games where it factors in the terrain. A bit different where the main bases can only be destroyed, though. Another favorite of mine is Z. I only played a demo, but it was really fun.

I can't decide between Company of Heroes and World in Conflict. Those are probably the best strategy games I''ve ever played, be it RTS or turn based.

so many

Empire Earth 1 & 2
Age of EMpires 1-3
Company of Heroes
Empires: Dawn of the Modern World
Sins of a Solar Empire

but I think for when it came out Empire Earth 1 would take the cake, so. bloody. big.

as you can see I geneerally prefer the bigger more strategic and epic RTS's then the small Tactical ones like starcraft and World In Conflict, heres hoping somebody releases a good big RTS someday.

You think there's going to be sequels to either? I know SHV's reception was poor as not only was it a buggy mess but the whole interface sucked (never played it myself, from what I've heard though). I'd love to see a CoH sequel.

Company of Heroes is incredible. It helps if you're into WWII of course, but it's a great RTS in its own right. It's the game that turned me onto RTSes in the first place. Well, OK, C & C did that, but CoH solidified it. If you're into it, you owe yourself to play it.

I checked a brief description that states it was a 1996 title. Has it aged well?

Red Alert 2. It had all the sensibilities of the original C&C games, but with added gameplay features making this a great multiplayer game. My brothers and I had many a match rushing each other.

Unless Ubi ditches their OSP DRM and returns the series to its previous, unadulterated self, I will not be buying another Ubi game, muchless a SH game. I don't want a game that allows for magic torpedoes that can have their range extended at any time.

As far as CoH, I have heard rumors of a sequel. Whether it is true or not is a different story altogether.

My favorite is Red Alert 2 and its expansion Yuri's Revenge for sure. Best sequel to a game ever.

Gameplay better than ever, graphics better then ever, in fact everything was better than ever.
