In the wake of the release of Super Street Fighter IV on tuesday (despite most everyone getting it early), what is your favorite iteration of Street Fighter?

Personally, I think Street Fighter Alpha 3 had the best gameplay (Talking about the home console versions), but Alpha 2 had the best music. I think the EX games are mediocre at best.

street fighter alpha 3 on ps1, it had a world tour mode where you could fight battles and get customizable options for your characters (guard gauge doesnt decrease, reversals do more damage, combo gauge slowly fills etc etc etc) and there were alot (probably 15 - 20 total) and then you could import that character and fight it in arcade or vs mode. i LOVED doing that and was filled with a teeny bit of heartbreak when that wasnt added to ssf4.... this time next year will be super street fighter 4 turbo hyperfighting edition. with 12 more characters, 10 more levels and 3 more modes.... mark my words!!!!

My favorite for a long time, regarding strictly Street FIghter characters would have been Super Street Fighter II, followed closely by Street Fighter II. I liked the changes they made, including new moves, characters, and backgrounds they added to Super which made it feel complete.

If I could include my favorite fighting game to include Street Fighter characters, it would be Marvel Vs Capcom 2, due to the number of characters, with that one followed by Capcom vs SNK.

I can guarantee I've played the first Street Fighter 2 more than any other since, but my all time fav would be Street Fighter Alpha 2 on the Saturn.

Street Fighter Alpha. Any one of them though Alpha 3 has the Tour Mode with customizable characters. Yeah Street Fighter reached as close as its going to get to perfection in my opinion with Alpha 3. Though a lot of fighter fans seem to think SF III: Third Strike is the pinnacle of the series.

Alpha 2 does indeed have the best music , at least from all the alpha games, though I dont think any of the SF games have had bad music

This for me, as well. I played Turbo the most, but Super Turbo is the better game. III is leagues ahead of the Alpha series.

I remember right as Turbo landed, arcades were modding their Championship edition cabinets so as not to go to waste. While the play wasn't as balanced, it was still fun shoryuken-ing across the screen, shooting fireballs in the air, and becoming electric with Blanka while emitting 10s and 20s of up-and-down moving sonic booms.

Street Fighter 2 turbo was the best especially the SNES version I haven't played a Street Fighter game better then that as for the Alpha series I never did like those games.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 would be my choice because of the added modes. World Tour is really fun to play, and offers a lot of replay value.

I suppose I could add X-men Vs Street Fighter (Saturn version) to the list , although its not really a proper SF game.
