For me, it would have to be Resident Evil 2.

So much content and so much fun.

A close second would be Parasite Eve (if you consider it horror) or Clock Tower.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. I like the serial killer theme paired with the franchise staple of apocalyptic supernatural horror.

Resident Evil 2 for me as well. It's the best game in the series, IMO. It had the best story, it had some intense moments, it had really impressive CGI cutscenes for the time that still hold-up today; and it had practically 4 games in one, since Leon and Claire both had separate first and second playthroughs, depending on who you used to playthrough first. Plus I've was a zombie-movie fan before I ever played RE2 (which was the first RE games I played), so it already had points going into it before I even played it for that reason. There were zombies in games before RE, but RE is really the first game with zombies that played like a zombie film.

That doesn't leave much to choose from. XD Alone in the Dark and Clock Tower are the only other horror games on the PSX I can think of. My favorite is Resident Evil 2.

RE3 for me!

The two previous installments are great as well, but I had the most fun with RE3. The random nature of the game, and the fact that zombies would come back over time really added to the suspense.

Silent Hill. I never found any RE to be scary, except for maybe getting my head sawn off in RE4. I have always been more of a fan of RE's gameplay and story, but damn, Silent Hill and the rest of the series are creepy as hell.

Clock Tower or Resident Evil 3.

hakanakumono

Hell no, picture Resident Evil with invisible items, items you can only pick up while crouching and tons of instakills. Overblood 2 however is pretty good and it's arguably one of the best looking PS1 games ever made, but it does have a game breaking glitch.

Clock Tower is still scary, the crude graphics actually enhance the atmosphere.

Silent Hill for me. I appreciate what RE did, but in Silent Hill I was constantly on edge.

To be fair I was in RE3 too;

*walks into a new area* "Doesn't look too bad.."

"S.T.A.R.S.!!"

"YAAAAAHHH!!!!"

*runs*

You know that's a good point, I can't think of too many games this could be said about.

The King's Field games are similar in this manner. The strange look of the people and creatures (due to the very early PS1 graphics) just add to the creepy and dangerous atmosphere the game gives you.

Well, the only ones I played on PS1 were the RE series, the Fear Effect series, Parasite Eve series (not sure if these count), and Dino Crisis. I would have to go with RE2 though like a lot of others have said.

Resident Evil 3:Nemsis for sure. The main element of fear was the constant uncertainty of not knowing if Nemesis would pop up out of nowhere. He was strong, scary, unforgivingly fast.. All that combined with the minsfortune of your character moving like a tank equals one scary game.

Resident Evil baby!! It's a toss-up between the original and RE2: RE1 hadintroduced a brand new type of gaming, where survival horror wasn't really something anyone had ever seen, and I remember buying my Ps1 ONLY to play RE1, I honestly didn't care for the other games (but got em of course). Sure the acting was crap but it was such an amazing experience. RE2 only added to this, and while the idea wasn't as fresh, the game did everything right.

Silent Hill was good but I felt the puzzles were just too hard and the action was severely lacking. I didn't feel as much intensity to survive as the game was more psychological than physical.

Those damned plants, with their creeping-about behaviours and ugly "*krsshk*" sounds...

Agreed.

Gotta buy those games when I see them again.

RE:3. It's the first RE I played and Nemesis was creepy.. I know many think the 2nd was the best of the original trilogy, but I enjoyed 3 more.
