I have to go with the stealth genre. Even games with a stealth component are instantly made better for it. Some of my favourite games of this generation are Dishonored, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Splinter Cell Double Agent, Hitman Absolution and The Last Of Us. All of which have a healthy dose of stealth and always keep me coming back for more.

@contracts420: yea, I agree. I'm surprised at how well done the stealth was in TLoU. Some of the best I've seen. Impressive for not even being dedicated to the genre.

For me I'd have to say isometric RPGs (Fallout 2). They really no longer exist except as indie titles. I'd love to see one with a AAA budget. Man how I miss good old fashioned isometric games.

I like it when it's optional, i am really surprised how it was in Tomb Raider, even though it's not a stealth game. You could take guys out without them knowing it. Which i thought was awesome

I really enjoy a lot of FPSs and RPGs, but I think my favorite is just straight up action/adventure.

Despite all the missed opportunities from this gen for both the J and W flavors, nothing get's me excited quite like a grand journey in a well crafted RPG.

My tastes have gotten simpler as I've gotten older. Where I used to love epic RPGs with their grand stories and clinging to shadows in stealth games, this generation I've enjoyed nothing more than simplistic shooters with massive explosions and punching dudes in the face. The new style beatem ups like Batman: Arkham and Sleeping Dogs are hands down my favorite nowadays.

That really tight combat engine that the Arkham games rolled out has to play a big part in that. And my tastes are very similar to what you describe.

I still enjoy Bethesda's RPGs though. I liked Fallout 3 and Skyrim quite a lot. Though at a point, they become daunting. It feels strange to have 30 hours put into a game and be, like, 4% complete.

I'd say action/adventure definitely dominates my gaming preference/collection (though I do gets down w/ some racing and fight genre, too). Within that sub-genre, I also love point & click games. I also love board/card/casino games, too.

A ton, but I'm usually pretty spread out with the game genre's I play. Really love Platformers, Open World, rpgs (though I'm only just recently diving deeper into the genre), fighting , racing, fps/tps, rts, and others.

You omitted major genres like Strategy, Adventure, Role-Playing and Simulation and yet put Tactical (which is not a genre)?

Anyway, my favorite is Turn-based Strategy. I've also been enjoying Tower Defense a whole lot in the past few years which has definitely become a favorite. Other favorite genres include RPG, Adventure and FPS.

Im less into genre as much as open world/branching paths/multiple endings. As long as it uses those design choices I will probably like it regardless of the genre.

@ZZoMBiE13: Arkham evolved the beat em up in the way that Halo and Timesplitters did the FPS. It was bound to happen eventually, but one never really expects the first attempt to be so perfectly successful.

I have no idea where Devil May Cry 3 falls under but I think it's under Action/Adventure. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

But generally I like any third-person game as long as it's not turn-based or something like a point-and-click style of gameplay.

I, too, enjoy a good management sim. Roller Coaster Tycoon was a great one. Also enjoyed Prison Architect recently.

You gonna give Space Base DF-9 a whirl? It's not strictly management sim, but it shares a lot of the DNA of one. Of course it's still a bit busted as Early Access games often are, but it's already showing a lot of potential. I can't wait for a more evolved build.

Umm where are the best genres RPG, and Strategy. At least you have action/adventure in there.

My favorite genre is definitely the RPG genre, with action/adventure/stealth right behind mainly due to Metal Gear.

I love myself a good RPG, but I also enjoy playing some action adventure games as well. A little mix of the two is never a bad thing either.
