What's your favorite type of game and what are your top 3 games of all time in that category?
What's your favorite type of game and what are your top 3 games of all time in that category?
Tricky, but I chose RPG.
I'd say my three favourite titles in the category are:
@xantufrog: In my head I combined strategy and puzzle, although there are big differences between the two. Gomen nasai.
@rocketsurgery: I really enjoyed those games as well. I've never used mods, but after reading up on EnaiRim Special Edition I may jump into it given the large fanbase.
@sakaixx: JRPGs are pretty dope! I've enjoyed Fire Emblem since game boy days. Have you played Persona or the newest Dragon Quest XI?
@mclarenmaster18: @splintah: Racing games can be so enjoyable and thrilling. My first racing games were on NES, barely under the same genre considering the advances of technology. Did you ever play Cruis'n World N64? The game really hyped me up for the racing genre.
@storm_of_swords: I am incredibly excited that developers are still making and improving a genre we thought hit its peak in the 90s. Even the Switch has new platformer games.
The indication from 2018 and coming up 2019 is that I don't have one particularly. Use to be a sworn Fighting Gamer. Though so long as the games have solid gameplay I will likely have a good time, and put whatever hours in as I like.
Monster Hunter: World, The Messanger, Disgaea Refine, Katamari Damashii, Soul Calibur VI, Quake: Champions, and Dusk all hit that note last year. Also recently just beat Dishonored, good game.
Action/Platformer: God of War, Alan Wake
Action RPG: The Witcher, Mass Effect
Tactical Shooters/ Shooters: Ghost Recon, Call of Duty
I use to be a big fighting game fan back in the 90's( Mortal Kombat, Tekken) but I've lost interest in them since the mid 2000. I have a few sports games like Madden and UFC, but not enough to really be worth mentioning them!!
Shooter halo and gears my favourite franchises.
Closely followed by rpg but more of the action rpg mould skyrim for example.
I voted racing as they were the first games I played. I wanted to vote for shooters but racing games have been with me for too long for me to not vote for them. Here are top 3 racing games:
1. Need For Speed Most Wanted (2005)
2. Need For Speed Hot Pursuit (2010)
3. Burnout Paradise
@Macutchi: Yes, overall had a good time. Level design was excellent.
How's the sequel? Will likely give that a go later in 2019.
it's one of my favourites from this gen.
the level design is some of the most inventive i've seen. you play as either corvo (no longer silent, voiced by stephen russell, garrett from thief fame) or emily who both have their own new suite of powers which you get to combine in new game+ mode. violence isn't punished like it was in the first game and playing as a revengeful bloodthirsty assassin is lots of fun.
like the first it's a game which really rewards creative thinking. ask it the question "can i combine power x with power y to achieve z" invariably results in the response "yes!" which allows you to get really imaginative with your play style and gives you loads of replay potential. would definitely recommend if you enjoyed the first. and probably on pc if possible
@Macutchi: Seems I'm in for a treat. Like the idea that they're not throwing in gimmicks but improving what already works_
The first game did seem to have a few stability issues like frozen guards, prompts not working correctly, weird detection issues and falling through platforms. But nothing I'm not already use to from Bethesdas polish philosophies. And less frequent than a Fallout or Scrolls game.
Played the first on PS4 but it does feel like it would have been more fitting to a mouse and keyboard, will likely get the sequel on P.C.
The mixture of Strategy and Role playing such as Mount and Blade is the best experience for me to enjoy.
