Sooo Far Cry Primal is actually happening. Initially I thought it's just a stand alone expansion like Blood Dragon, but nope; it an actual major game of the series. I'm a big fan of Far Cry 3 (not so much of 4) so I checked some game walkthroughs and these are the major things I noticed in the game.

1. Not truly 'Primal': If developers are trying to distant themselves from the rest of the series and make a more primitive style game, they should go through it the whole way; the fact that they are still using the modern looking UI really grabs you away from the experience. I wish they would have used more ancient style interfaces that goes along with game. For example it would have been a neat touch if instead of going to the map interface, the character take out a hand drawn map on a cloth made by animal skin and whenever we select a place to go, he marks the spot. And when he goes to a high point to reveal the map (which doesn't have to be the same old towers and instead be more diverse like a mountain or a tall tree) it shows how he draw the new found lands. That will add more to his character as an explorer and make the game distant from predecessors.

2. The new game features are either not developed enough or just downright stupid: The biggest new feature of this game is Animal Companions and while that's an interesting idea, taming prehistoric animals seems to be as engaging as cutting a herb plant. You just click a few buttons and the wild ferocious animal becomes your pet. It could have been developed to make the taming and controlling more complex and in turn, make each animal special and unique instead of just being another thing to add into the inventory.

Tame deadliest predators of prehistoric era and become the Beastmaster....by holding square for a few seconds.
Tame deadliest predators of prehistoric era and become the Beastmaster....by holding square for a few seconds.

And of cause there's that 'scanning' for enemies in perimeter using an owl.....I'm not even going go there.

3. Reskin: Here's Ubisoft at it's finest; Creating something new and fresh, and then hold on to it for the rest of their lives sucking it dry. When the animal companions and stick weapons are taken off, the game setting is the same old thing, the animations are the same, the whole enviornment and it's residents are a literal reskin of predecessors. This may not be an annualized game (though I feel it soon will be), I see more improvement and diversity in each Assassin's Creed than what's in this one. Hell, Blood Dragon had more changes than this; And that was a damn stand-alone expansion!

The only bright point that's worth praising is that they are using an older language for the character dialogues. I thought that was a good step forward

These are of cause just observations I made by watching walkthroughs, I'm not trying to judge the game before it's release.....Nah this is a pretty clear judgement before the game's release. :p What do you guys think about this one?

I agree with everything you said. What I see is Far Cry 4 without the weapons, vehicles and location.

I excpected it more primal tbh.

I'm sceptical about it... but will reserve judgement until I play it.

I'm sure I'll love it...their spinoff's are great, and I've loved all the Far Cry game's (even the disease ridden 2).

After I get it for 15 or less on steam, lol.

I guess it might be good. I skipped Far Cry 4 because it was too similar to Far Cry 3. This game is different enough that I think it may be fun. At least its not another CoD crap game.

I'm interested. The series is due for a shake-up. I loved every second I spent with Far Cry 3 (well, except for the multiplayer) but when I finally got around to playing Far Cry 4 recently, I grew bored with it very quickly because of how similar it was to its predecessor.

Imagining Far Cry without modern guns and vehicles is pretty weird but weird is good. And actually, the bow is my preferred weapon in Far Cry 4. I love to play these games as stealthily and methodical as possible.

I was somewhat interested in the previous Far Cry games and this one doesn't seem very interesting at all.

(copy/paste for what I said on system wars related to FC: Primal)

For a 10,000BC game, I'll just wait for Horizon: Zero Dawn since it looks 10x better then what I saw from the vids on Primal. I watch Angry Joe play Primal, it looks dull and could have been done better. I'd feel better about the concept if the price were more in line with Blood Dragon.

not sure if this game will follow the same style as other open world ubisoft games but i'm assuming it does. personally that style gets boring very quickly for me, particularly as they re-use it over and over again, game after game.

i would so much rather they return to the style of the original far cry, where you have large open environments but your progress is still ultimately on a linear path. so you can't just wander round the map and explore and fast travel etc. but you do have a really big open area to choose your approach to each mission scenario as you progress. pretty much the same style as crysis.

that style in a fps is far more fun and story driven to me. you get all the freedom to choose your approach and get immersed in the constantly progressing story, and you don't get distracted by all the nasty filler side mission stuff they love stuffing their games with. then when the campaign is finished they can open up the map, let you free roam and explore and give you all the collectible kind of shit to do. that'd be so much better in my book. i'm not sure why they're completely unwilling / unable to deviate from their stale open world template

To be honest I'll wait to even bother looking this game up. Probably wait till it's on sale then try it out. I enjoyed 3 a lot. 4's story wasn't as good but the world and game on pc was a major major improvement on a technical level. They are very very similar but I don't know, for $10 15$ I can see me trying it out, since the last two were some of the only Ubisoft games I've enjoyed in the last 10 years. But I agree they are too much alike.

I don't plan on picking it up at launch (mostly because of my current backlog), but i enjoyed 3,4 and Blood Dragon, so I'm certainly interested to see what this installment will offer.

I still wonder if this game is in response to the surprisingly large number of people who where asking for a FarCry game with Dinosaurs, because this is probably the closest we'll get, but obviously it's not what those people wanted.

It looks very cool to me. I'm very interested in seeing how the final game turns out when it launches.

No guns and explosions? You dare call this far cry?

Look if you gonna take liberties with the far cry license at least put monster in it like the first game.

Making a "primal" far cry game without dragons is a crime against game development.

Solution? Make it like far cry 1, in a remote tropical island but with a jurassic park/turk twist on it.

This is obviously done because it is easy to make, no cars, no guns, no complex buildings or furniture or electric devices, no roads or signs or streetlights, they are making it just to cover the gap between the next far cry game. If this is 60 bucks, then i wont be buying it.

I see a distinct lack of dinosaurs in all of its previews.

So yeah, lost opportunity I think.

That would've been fuckin' awesome wading through a thick jungle and trying to outsmart a pack of raptors or fleeing for your life from a t-rex.

One can dream...

Erm...this game takes place in 10,000BC, there were no Dinosaurs around during that period, humans and Dinosaurs have never been alive at the same time thoughout the entirety of history. There is at least a 60 million year difference between the extinction of the dinosaurs and first Human. This is basically the Ice Age movies only this is brutal.

I realise it's not the same time period, but farcry 3 did also have magic jungle hoodoo (which we are somewhat lacking in reality).

I just can't say I'm really interested in saber cats and mammoths. Seen plenty of that in skyrim.
