I just got a Geforce 1070 and can finally run Fallout 4 and am having a tough time deciding what SPECIAL stats to start with. I tried searching for help online, but didn't quite the the info I wanted.

Basically I'd like to open up as many dialogue choices as possible, be able to gamble at the casino, and be kind of a James Bond kind of character, who is smart and smooth talking, but also somewhat able to handle himself in a fight it comes to that. I'd rather sneak around and break into things than be a tank.

Some sites suggest putting a high Charisma, but others say you can always increase Charisma later so not to put anything into it. I was thinking something like this:

S 3

P 4

E 3

C 6

I 6

A 3

L 2

Why not try and figure out for yourself?

Dialogue options is not just based on Charisma , it´s also based on certain skills. But i would suggest go with a high chr and then increase it to max on the way, together with picking the right skills.

That should give you most options and chance with npc´s

@Jacanuk: I played fallout 1, 2, and a little bit of 3, but don't play games as much anymore and don't want to spend hours with a character only to wish I had done the build differently. I don't really know what to expect in the wasteland and would prefer to get a good

Well, that´s a problem then.

Because you are the only one who knows what kind of character fits your playstyle and if you will enjoy playing a certain way.. If you really want all the dialogue options, then as i said high chr and picking the right talents , is the way forward.

But it´s going to cost you in other areas. So there is in my opinion no way around just try&Error.

Pick what weapon class appeals to you, then what kind of person you want to be, and then focus on those skills.

For example, if laser weaponry and dialogue appeals to you, then max the SPECIAL stats that help with that.

Likewise, go to the perks list and preview all the skills that look good to you. You'll find that you don't need to "max" a lot of your SPECIAL stats that you think you do, while you need to max some you thought you didn't. It's kind of lame but SPECIAL = what perks you unlock, so if you really care about your build, plan it out using a calculator on a website and then go play. There are also a lot of collectible Baubleheads (forgot what theyre called in the game) that grant +1 benefits to you, some are pretty easy to get, so if you want look those up and plan accordingly as there is a cap/max to your stats.

If this is your first time, though, I think you should maybe do a little bit of research and then do a rough build. Don't overspecialize, it makes the experience kind of lame imo.

It does not matter much since you can add another point every lvl if you want and bobblehead dolls. I think starting out charisma, agility, and strength are the best though. Normal guns are far better then laser guns or melee weapons at first, Charisma since there are even a bunch of speech checks at the start plus it will even help with settlements, and str to carry all that phat loot you'll get.

After reading your post again, it sounds like you want to play a sneaky scoundrel type, kind of a post-apocalyptic rogue, someone that would walk into a saloon and charm and talk his or her way both into and out of most situations, and could sneak their way out of the rest. Gunplay would therefore become secondary, and would rely more on crits and and big burst damage than sustained damage.

How important is settlement building to you? That really determines how much C you want to invest in; if it is important to you, then you probably want to put in a bunch of points. If a settlement is not so important, then you might want to take those points and maybe put them more towards something will assist you in combat.

Anyway, below is a suggested build:

S 3: you want three points to access the "Armorer" perk, this is a a good addition as it allows you to make big modifications to your armor.

P 4: four points for "Lockpicking", a critical skill in the wasteland, you will make tons of caps off of what you find in locked containers, not to mention invaluable materials, supplies, and resources

E 1: meh...you're talking and sneaking you're way out of stuff.

C 9: I'd put in 10, but let's just do 9 and leave one point for the Bobblehead, yeah? You can google it and see where to find it; they're generally easy enough to find.

I 4: I like a few points here for "hacker", "Gun Nut", and "Medic" ("Medic" especially, because Stimpaks are so plentiful and later on you can essentially heal your whole healthbar that it doesn't matter if you're taking so much damage you can outheal it with one Stimpak).

A 3: "Sneak" for sneaking, you said you want to stealth around

L 3: "Bloody Mess" will assist with your overall damage since you will be specializing in non-combat skills

Be warned this build might be a little fragile, but it should be pretty good if you are are careful, approach every situation carefully, and sneak around. I recommend getting yourself a good sniper rifle, a silenced pistol, and staying out of melee range as much as possible. Take full advantage of your companions and charisma abilities!

Mr. Bojangles gave you some great tips OP but being a fallout 4 (survival mode) obsessive myself, I'd say that all of the information you'd get before engaging in the game is pretty irrelevant. You have no point of reference to anything you're asking for and you have no idea which of the many gameplay elements will strike your fancy. I'd say go for around what you want (what you posted in the OP is fine) and go on from there. Engage the game and wrap your character growth around the gameplay elements you experience that gel with your particular tastes the most.
