Poll Does Zelda have the best lore of any medium? (21 votes)

Yes 5%
No 95%

I am going to be the devils advocate and say no. I have read fantasy/science-fiction stories with better lore. Zelda is, in my opinion, a fantasy themed game for people who don't like fantasy/science-fiction. Almost all die-hard Zelda fanboys/fangirls I know are clueless about fantasy/science-fiction.

The only legitimate claim I have ever heard from a Zelda fanboy/fangirl is that at least Zelda is not trying to be LOTR/DND, unlike many fantasy series. But that statement alone does not make it the "best" lore in any story of any medium, ever.

No, just no. It's good and works very well for a video game, but there are many books with better lore. To name a few; Song of Ice and Fire, Mistborne, really anything by Brandon Sanderson.

That said, I freeking love Zelda.

I don't think so... it's quite basic.

It's good for what it is, but it's pretty basic overall.

I've been on this forum for over 11 years now, and I don't think I've ever seen anyone claim that Zelda has the best lore.

It seems pretty weird to raise the argument in the thread title, then immediately disagree with it.

Anyway, the Zelda franchise is fantastic, and it's one of the most important (and critically acclaimed) videogame franchises in the entire industry. Does it have the best lore? No. It doesn't even have a consistent storyline - nor does it ever try to have one. Does it present a series of charming and detailed worlds for us to explore and become immersed in? Certainly.

Also, I doubt you'll find any videogame that has "the best lore of any medium". Plus...how would you even quantify the best lore, anyway?

It is the best in so many other ways that it doesn't matter what they do with the 'lore'.

The Gameplay is really good, the lore is not.

No. It's pretty basic fantasy stuff. That being said, some of the worlds and versions of Hyrule are excellent (Majora's Mask, Spirit Tracks had neat lore) and they often tell great stories, even if it is good vs evil. It's probably my favorite game series more because of the atmosphere, gameplay and sountracks than the lore.
