Is the TurboGrafx 16 worth picking up now? I saw a few bundles on ebay for around $100 with the original box and 4-5 games mint.

Would you prefer the North American or Japanese console?

Also how is backwards compatability for import games? Are the imports better than the U.S. version?

The Turbo Grafx 16 is my favorite system of all time. And it is still my favorite! The system is loaded down with old retro arcade type shooters. If you are into that genre or have a twitch for it, then you will love the Turbo Grafx system. There are other quality games for it like the Bonk series and Legendary Ax, etc. To me, the system is well worth having in any collection.

There's a lot of awesome games on that console. Dragon Spirit, Dragon Saber, Neutopia (very Zelda-like), Bomberman, Bonk, and if I remember right, Splatterhouse. Go for it!

It's quite a good system if you're into R-Type and Raiden like shooters. There are tons of those games for a decent price on that system. As was already mentioned, the original Splatterhouse is also on it, but it's a bit pricey. Bonk's Adventure & Bonk's Revenge and Keith Courage in Alpha Zone are good little platformers. And the original Street Fighter 1 is on that system, the ONLY home version of the game. But it's retitled "Fighting Street". It's also built like tank. No way you can break the system or the games without being very forceful or submerging it water. Even then I think the games at least would survive a water dunking. And it's a neat little novelty to show friends since most people have never even played one.

Hmmm (reaching over and grabbing a stack of games beside me) :)

Side Arms

Galaga 90

Soldier Blade

Blazing Lazers

Areo Blasters

Raiden

R-Type

Dragon Spirit

Air Zonk

Sinistron

Dead Moon

And there is a need to have

Ninja Spirit

New Adventure Island

Victory Run

There's a few to get started and I am sure others can give you some more ideas.

Few of those shmups are expensive, will have to look out for them. It's great to see so many great exclusive titles.

I don't know how long that will be but hopefully I will find one on ebay in the future. I still have some research to do on the good HuCard games.

Good luck finding the super system card required to play super CD-ROM²" games like Lords of Thunder in a stand-alone CD-ROM system.

You should've brought a PCE/TURBO DUO instead.

Ebay has a couple expensive ones (approx. $400) but I think I will make it an adventure to find one some place else. I'm in no rush to play all the CD-Rom games. Can you suggest a few must have HuCard American titles?

Well, the best exclusive games for the system are in CD-ROM format. And the majority of the best HuCARD games are Japanese-exclusive releases.

Still, there were many high-quality games that were released in the US :

  • Silent Debuggers
  • Bloody Wolf
  • Rabio Lepus Special
  • PC Denjin : Punkic Cyborgs
  • Soldier Blade
  • Dungeon Explorer
  • Ninja Spirit
  • Parasol Stars
  • Chouzetsu Rinjin Beraboh Man
  • Kaizou Choujin Shubibinman 2
  • Tora e no Michi : Tiger Road

Tiger Road? I played that game and it was so boring

In that case it's best you don't, the game is pretty heavy on D&D rules, but it doesn't explain them, so those who are not familiar with it won't understand them

Alright. I usually like to play something that's quick and easy to get into, arcade type games.
