I only pre-order anymore when I know it's a game I'm going to spend some serious time in. I used to do it more often, but now I only do the full $60(or less) pre-order about once a year. Last year it was Borderlands 2, this year it was GTA V, next year is most likely Dark Souls II.
Only if I know 100 percent the game is worth 60 and see myself spending a lot of time with.
This year I think I preorderd only two games. GTAV and the Last of Us.
Other games I usually wait a few days and find someone locally selling a new copy around $45-50.
So rarely I preorder games.
i usually wait, i am making an exception with the PS4 release and getting some games, but i haven't preordered for 2 or 3 years now. So i wait until games get cheaper or just get games through ps+
I wait for a price drop/sale. All my friends don't play videogames, so I don't feel pressured to buy games at launch (I can easily avoid spoilers on the internet). I also have a giant backlog, so there's always something to entertain me during the period between launch and price drop. I suppose I should support the developers by buying games I know I'll enjoy at launch, but I really don't have that much money to spend and I guess everything is better than pirating.
Sometimes I'll pre-order if there are cool exclusives for doing so. Usually I'll get most games in the first week or so. Sometimes I'll wait for a price drop. I'll probably be in line tonight at midnight for the release of Call of Duty: Ghosts. :D
rarely do I buy/preorder mainstream titles day one because I know those will eventually be cut in price and there will be enough stock available. If it's a Japanese shmup however, I preorder and buy day one due to limited stock and the value increases rapidly.
I usually blow a lot of my money on games from previous gens. Right now I'm buffing up my NEO-GEO MVS collection.

I will keep buying ps3 games after PS4 is going to be out, because of the ton of games i haven't tried yet. I never pre-order
I rarely pre-order or buy games at release. It'd have to be something I really want, because usually I just wait for a holiday sale to pick up games.

same here, i just don't see the point pre-ordering. Patience is a virtue
I pre-order usally only when it's a special edition I want, as EB only gets very limited numbers and I'm a sucker for statues/collectables. For regular games I just pick it up on launch day or whenever, unless it has a pre-order bonus I want.
If it has collectibles then I pre-order but I've actually run out of room for more collectors items so I'll have to tone down my pre-orders, I actually got both the CE and DE of Batman Arkham Origins just for the statues, although the steal case actually felt pretty sturdy. I never pre-order a standard game.

oh same here, but the last time i found something worthy was Star Wars The Old Republic and Injustice (but that was sold out)
it really depends on the game, if i really really want it then i'll put a preorder in on amazon, final fantasy always gets a pre order.. where as much i enjoy assassins creed, i'll probably wait for a price drop on black flag.. ultimately depends on the game, collectors edition and price.
I wait anywhere from 3 to 5 months before I get a "new" game because I always end up paying half off or more. When you do that for every game that comes out you have a steady stream of new stuff to play. Ive waited a year or more to play some game, I can wait a couple more months if it means I pay 30 bucks or less instead of 60.
My only exceptions are atlus games, nis special editions, the few rare collector editions I know will be gone like last of us or dark souls, or the few rare games that I just really want to play very much and has some cool incentive like beyond two souls.
No, there's so much stock now that there's really no need to. If it's a game I just can't live without, I just go pick it up on my lunch break on launch day. I might pre-order if it's an odd game that stores might not get a lot of copies of though.
I don't preorder because the likelihood of a game being out of stock is ridiculously low and there's absolutely no upside to me in preordering. I rarely buy a game in the first month after release, especially if it looks like it's getting DLC (Then I just wait for the complete edition) generally they're less than 50% the launch price by the time the first month is over and by then there are plenty of reviews.
I could go buy heavily marketed games at £40+ on launch day without knowing anything about them that the publisher doesn't want me know, or I can buy 4 games a month or two old at a tenner and maybe find a little gem in the rough that I otherwise wouldn't have picked up. It's no contest really.
The only game I ever pre-ordered was Mass Effect 3. I usually wait until the eventual $20-$30 price drop or wait until a GOTY-esque edition comes out and it drops in price.
Only for collector editions I really want. Otherwise I import from online stores. Sure it takes 1-2 weeks to get to me but I save $30ish each time (approx 1/3 of the cost of the game in Aus)

i have only boought two so far, and i am happy with them
it really depends on what game it is and what's going to be coming with it if i pre-order it. i preordered black ops 1 and 2 but that was mostly so i could have a fun time standing in line with my buddies during the midnight release! those are honestly so fun and the excitement is absolutely contagious. i have also preordered both dark souls games because of all the extra stuff you get with them like cool cases, figurines, concept art books, and c.ds!
I only pre-order if it's a game that I know I will enjoy and will be worth the full $60. For me it also depends on pre-order incentives, like Amazon's $10-$20 game credit they give for pre-orders from time to time.
Otherwise, I just wait for the inevitable price drop and buy it when it's cheap. I try to go for cheap new copies, but will get a used copy if it's a PS3 title (Blu-Ray discs are virtually indestructible).
Two CEs? Which ones did you go for?
Forza 4, which was pretty much just extra content and SWTOR where i got the Darth Malgus statue, map, in game content and a CD
Generally my pre-orders take two forms.
PC pre-orders are hooked up a week in advance to take advantage of preloading and having people send me hate messages on steam.
Console gaming pre-orders I normally don't bother with seen as where I live most games stores are not out of stock by the time I wake up for me to go out and just buy it.
Then again recently I've taken to not bothering pre-ordering besides the PS4. With so many offers being thrown around mere days or weeks after a games release there's a lot of money to be saved with a little patience and waiting for the opinions of friends.

Nice choices.

Yeah, i rarely buy them, but they were worth it for those two. Spent over 500 hours on both. Thinking i might do it again with Watch Dogs

I bought Forza 4's CE too. See, not everybody hates racing :P
True, but we are the few, we are the chosen ones :3

Does that make me chosen too? On that topic did you guys pre order the LE Forza 5? The in game extras seem well worth the $10 more they're asking (here in Aus anyways)

Xbox won't hit here this year, i will probably get it if i have the money next year. Unknown when it gets here
i only pre-order things that i know will be collectors item's in the future and be worth alot as the years pass..for example i pre-ordered Metriod Prime Trilogy: Collectors edition- and its still factory sealed. And i recently just pre-ordered the legend of zelda a link between worlds 3DS XL because i know this will be worth alot down the road, like all Zelda items.
