Maybe I'm asking the same question here but, generally, I think most people will answer this as both or it depends on the game...which is fair.

I've heard a lot of people on this forum mention that if they're no longer having "fun" with a game, they usually end up stop playing it.

Sometimes speaking from my own experiences, I tend to continue playing games if I still enjoy the characters, story, etc...even if the gameplay itself isn't all that memorable.

@speeny: I liked Detroit: Become Human a lot and the gameplay is the weakest part. Still, I just might run another play through in the future. I like it that much.

It definitely needs to be fun for me. In some way shape or form. It doesn’t need to be perfect so to speak, but it’s needs to hook me in somehow. Needs to have a hook.

What's the difference? If it's entertaining - it's fun, if it's fun- it's entertaining.

Yep, glad someone picked up on that. I stated it in my original post anyway. :P

Feel this question is targeting users who commonly made statements like- "sure ___ was a chore, wasn't fun. But I wanted that immersive and storytelling experience"

Which was very common in the 2018 winter. Which puzzled a few of us. .

Not for me, games are primarily designed to have good gameplay (fun). The reason I'm sure most got into the hobby to begin with. If games lack that? I want no part of it.

Don't know why people expect more layers for modern games, it's not always a good thing to have if makes all the individual mechanics mediocre. Development should have target priorities, those that try to do too much usually succeed at nothing.

Well ideally I like to have fun and be entertained so both for me. The unique thing about games is that you can have fun with the gameplay and be entertained by the story in them. Sometimes though either one of those elements can be lacking but the draw of the other part can be enough to pull players through the rest of the game.
