Just wondering whether you into paying full price for new releases, or whether you wait for prices to drop.

Just wondering whether you into paying full price for new releases, or whether you wait for prices to drop.
Depends on the game. Lately I've been going full price on big new releases that get stellar reviews: Uncharted 2, Assassin's Creed 2, Mass Effect 2, and God of War III. On the other hand, I waited a bit for price drops on Modern Warfare 2 (which was $40 by Christmas, a month or so after release) and most other games. The other thing is that Amazon has been doing $10 game credits with a lot of these new releases, which definitely makes me more willing to take the plunge right away. I end up throwing most of my games up on eBay after playing them once or twice anyways, so with the $10 discount added in, I basically get these games for free.
Unless it is Zelda or Mario, price drop these days. Though I'm likely going to buy a wii this week--so I guess I'm going to be doing the full price thing.
It actually pays to get games on release if you get them from places such as Amazon. A few bucks off the retail price, pre-order incentives, no tax, free shipping, and they sometimes offer 10-20 dollars in gift credit for bigger releases on future purchases. Those credits add up. I've gotten at least 2-3 free games by buying games from Amazon. Might hurt your wallet right away, but in the long run it can help.
I have had a ps3 since september and I have yet to buy a game at full price. I will tomorrow though. Final Fantasy XIII :D
I never pay full price for a game. I utilise price comparison websites, one of them being in my sig. I save heaps of money that way.
It depends on the game.
There are VERY few games I will buy for full price. The only two that are coming out this year that I will buy for full price are Starcraft 2 and Halo: Reach. I can wait for all the other games to come down in price, or buy them off of ebay.
Depends. I've paid full price for Heavy Rain, Borderlands and Katamari Forever because I was anticipating them for months, but there are also games that I keep on my radar but don't feel obligated to buy right away, like Bioshock 2, Final Fantasy XIII and God of War 3.
i bought bad company 2 full price. and am planning for to buy starcraft 2 full price. and battlefield 3 when that comes out.
If its something I just can't wait to get my hands on. I buy new on release day. Lately via Amazon pre-order with $10 discount on the next. I try to hold out for price drops as much as posible. But Uncharted 2, Bioshock 2, FFXIII, GOWIII .... well I just couldn't wait.
Top dollar. I only buy games that meet certain criteria, and usually within this order 1. I have to love the concept of the game so that it peaks my interest. Also the genre important, whos developing it, and what its about. 2. Great hype surrounding the game while in production, how its turning out and just generally how it looks. 3. Review scores. But I've been a gamer long enough to know after the 2nd step whether its worth buying based on experience and good ol fashion instinct. Not many games in the next few months worth a purchase besides Red Dead Redemption for me, hmmm SquareEnix really need to do something about the Final Fantasy series...its starting to feel like Madden, same game different roster...
I wait for prices to drop. I buy games from Retail sources, new. I paid $27.00 for a HTF game as a gift. Every other game I own, I paid from $5.00 to $20.00 for, and that included Bioshock, Dead Space, Killzone 2, Uncharted, Prince of Persia, BFBC, and more.
I thought about getting BFBC 2, but i'll wait till the price drops. I offered to get Helen FF XIII or Heavy Rain for a Birthday present, but she is like me; paying full price for a game would make us feel guilty while playing it.
I use the dreaded Gamestop and just trade in a lot of my games. The whole 50% deal though has been quite a blessing as I got Heavy Rain for $24 after trading in COD 4, MGS4, and Silent Hill Shattered Memories (PS2). It's funny to because a month before they offered me $5 total for COD4 and MGS4 and a month later they were giving me around $25 for both. I guess that they really want to stock up on their used game inventory.
However with Final Fantasy XIII I paid full price. I would never pay though for the useless crap they have now with games and box sets. Stuff like Night Vision Goggles for MW2, strategy guides (especially when you can find whatever you need online), DVD's with Madden, or whatever crap they tried to throw in with RE5.
it depends on the game. i paid full price for bioshock 2 because i was such a fan of the first. also the ufc game because i'm a big ufc fan. but most of the time i wait for the price to drop at least a little.
The obvious answer to this question is: It depends on the game.
I'm not huge in gaming so when a game that I actually like comes out, I just buy it brand new (such asDA:O, Mass Effect 2, Heavy Rain, FFXIII, etc..). Used game prices don't dropby much unless you wait almost a year to buy them (I don't like buying games online so that excludes the bargain deals found in Amazon, Ebay, etc). For example, even though the game came out way back in Novermber, a used version of Dragon Age: Originsstill sells at $65.00, while its new version is around $70.00. In my opinion, mught as well buy the game brand new.
I would buy a game full price if I am really hyped for it. I recently bought ME2 and FFXIII at full price.
Things like MGS4, Mass Effect, Gears of War, FFXIII etc I buy at day 1 full price. Generally if I dont buy it at full price, then I probably won't buy it at all.
I wait for the price to drop.
1. I save money.
2. Pre-owned; I save money.
3. I can read reviews by people who have properly finished the game to see whether I should buy it instead of getting caught up in the initial hype and 5-minute-gameplay review.
4. I save money.
