Do some games not get announced ahead of time?

I don't know about you guys, but I like to stay up to date on upcoming games, even if I'm not going to necessarily play them or buy them. I just am interested in knowing whats new, so I use wikipedia's "2020 in video gaming" page, for example. Ive noticed, though, that some games that didn't appear on this list just come out, and then show up on wikipedia's page afterwards. Is this because some games don't get announced? If anyone has a good answer to this, that would be appreciated, might be a dumb question.

My favorite is when games are released within a year of an announcement. Usually with a stress-test/ beta months before release.

I think if games are announced years prior it's solely to sell merchandise, and help fund a project. Because rationally publishers/developers must know it fatigues a fandom to wait years for a release of an anticipated title.

Know this with 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. A game was excited for years, and eventually was just worried it would never come out, now that I've sunk hours into it, I just feel exhausted for how long it took from announcement to release.

Apex Legends was more or less unannounced. I won't speak for the more hardcore of game development followers but it was like "Respawn is working on a game!" and then a week later it was released.

It was really nice, especially given the fact it was a good game.

I wish more games would do this, just release without notice or little notice. It would give people less time to hype it or criticize it unfairly.

Sadly most companies want to cash it on preorders.
