Did N64 change your gaming life?

I remember myself playing videogames since I was only 7 years old. From the moment I started playing Sonic from Sega, I undesrtood how funny games could be. But, when N64 came to my hands, it made my days. Games like Super Mario 64, Goldeneye, Smash Bros and finally Zelda: Ocarina of Time became me the player I am.

I know that the kind of games I do play right now are definitely differents to those N64 games, but everytime someone ask me what was the best video game moment for me, N64 just comes to my mind. And that's not only for the Super Mario 64 Gameplay, but also Zelda's narrative. I believe Zelda was the first videogame in which I could play with Link and suddenly the night came trough the battlefield. It was pretty cool.

I have to admit that right now I am not a Nintendo player indeed, but still keep my N64 in safe. You never know: maybe I'd play Goldeneye this weekend.

What was your favorite N64 video game?

My favorite N64 game was Mario Kart 64. The only game I really put a lot of effort into the console. I’m not saying it was awful, but my memories aren’t as vivid as they were on other consoles. Some of note though include Mario 64, Conker, Wave Race, Stunt Race FX, and Unicycles.

Oh, and I hated the controller.

I wish I had an N64 growing up but I was born in 96 and my parents were more interested in the PlayStation rather than Nintendo consoles.

I remember my friends playing Banjo Kazooie in early 2000’s. I wanted to play it so badly. :(

@steve5xg:Yeah I remember quite a bit about the N64. It was revolutionary, some of the earliest games with 3D rendered graphics, you might say this was the gen that 3D rendered graphics became mainstream. I like all the games you like with my favorites probably being either Zelda: Ocarina of Time or GoldenEye 007.

@speeny: Quite the opposite with me, I actually grew tired of my Nintendo games and was jealous of my friend's PS1. Alot of great games for it like Metal Gear Solid, Twisted Metal, The Crash games, the list really goes on and on and I can't wait to see what they put on the PS classic come December.

A loud and resounding NO! While the system had some quality gems, its predecessor stayed in my mind as an all around better console. Many would want to forget the Wii U while I choose to forget the N64.

I broke my thumb and then got Mario Part for my birthday, and all my friends played it while I watched. So kinda.

No. While there were a few great games on the system overall it ranks pretty low on my favourite Nintendo systems. My favourite game was The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

I was never a huge fan of the N64, though I did own one. Hated the controller and I guess I just wasn't that into the games. I've gone back and played tons of SNES and PS1 games, but never really any N64 games.

Only in the sense that it was the first Nintendo console I owned, as I already had experienced 3D gaming on my PC and Saturn. So for me, it was special because I was able to play Nintendo stuff without having to go to a friend's or cousin's house.

I didn't like the jump form the snes to the n64. I wasn't a fan of 3d gaming at the time. I still thought 2d gaming could have gotten better. I was actually disappointed in oot. I didn't like the blocky look of early 3d games. The n64 is one of my least favorite generations. I like the wii and gamecube more.

No never really played it much, lent one from a friend late in the generation with a lot of games, couldn't find anything I liked.

As a child I owned the SNES and I definitely remember wanting one after I saw those SM64 commercials. My mother ended up buying me the PS1 instead and the rest was history after that. Looking back on it today I'm happy she did. I've played multiple N64 games on different systems over the years and I think the games that stood out the most for me was Banjo Kazooie, OOT & Majoras Mask.

I had PS1 when I got N64 and yet it did change my gaming life!

Ocarina of Time and SM64 were the sort of games PS1 simply did not have. They were real eye openers and showed how amazing game worlds could be.

Also, Turok and Lylat Wars were more ace than anything comparable on PS1. I had lotsa shooters on PS1, but the smooth way Turok and Lylat Wars run and played, yeah, it was something else!

On racing games, I think PS1 was the better, tho, as many N64 racers suffered from fogging and other issues..

PS1 did have LOT bigger games library, and on sports games and many other genres, it was the best, so PS1 was the console you really needed to own, back then. But at the same time, if you did not have N64 too, you missed out on some ace games.

Yep. However you had to play the N64 at the right time..as the games did not age well.

PS1 was the bigger life changer, but its safe to say they both did, unfortunately I never owned a Sega in 90s.

The nostalgia of my first NES, PS1 and OG Xbox, they are the most wonderful memories of all, next to my gaming on personal computers and arcades.

I kept reading about Mario 64 on magazines and when I finally managed to try it it blew my goddamn mind.
