Dead Island - What am I doing wrong?

I'm around level 10, zombie swarms are everywhere and overwhelm me with numbers.

The game advises "Make sure your health is full and weapon upgraded."

But there's 50 zombies between me and a workbench all the time, then 50 more zombies to get health.

The whole world levels with me, and I'm constantly getting my ass kicked.

Is this meant to only be played co-op?

The game doesn't seem to give you a break if you're 1 person.

I played the whole thing alone but yeah it's geared towards MP. Trick is to kick zombies back and hack away. Best to go for legs or something to slow them down. Or go for decapitations. TBH I didn't find it all that overwhelming only in some parts of the second area. I thought it was well done.

If all goes to all just run onto a car roof or something like that. And hack away from a height.

Also yes upgrade all your weapons a lot.Don't rely on one weapon full upgraded. That way they will destroy enemies and not break so easily

I haven't played it in a while but yeah, kick 'em all back and try to get in a few whacks on one, then kick 'em all back down again and repeat.

Throw your weapons at any explosives laying on the ground. Or Chop at the head with blades for easy kills. Kicks works wonders to push them back.

Make sure you have 3-4 weapons with some upgrades in them with you at all times, when you are doing a mission or whatever you should only need to repair two of them or so by the time you are done. A lot of the game is learning the area. Where is the save point, the store, etc. Once you have those memorized more you will always know where your safe spots are in relation to where you are in the map in case things go south. I finished the game SP did some multi here and there but not a lot. It really isn't that difficult of a game just keep at it you'll get there. Try not to spread out your skill points too much either you want to mainly commit to one of the combat trees. I still like the opening song to the game too haha. Whodo ya voodoo b1tch! ... knockin' them down and headstomping is your best bet usually. When your meter is full, use whatever special move your character has ( try to save it for those "overwhelming moments" if you can, but use it regularly..... AND, not tryin' to start anything in the man vs. woman world, but if you're going to play SP all the way through, pick one of the male characters to do it with. I'm not saying it can't be done with one of the female characters ( I know someone that's done it, I haven't tried it myself... yet), but the male characters are made alot stronger which makes it easier to bash zombies ... duh :)
