people go on and on about how ID ruled the 90s in FPS games. I beg to differ. there were so many FPS games that I enjoyed as much or even more than ultimate doom and quake. these include

star wars dark forces

marathon

distrupter

system shock

and last but not least

duke nukem 3d

Disruptor, Marathon, and System Shock were all great games that people forget about. Marathon lives in the shadow of Halo, while Disruptor lives in the shadow of Insominiacs platformers and Resistance games. And System Shock is always overlooked by System Shock 2, but these games are all great!

I remember for a while in around 94-97 , there was somewhat of a small flood of FPS games, mostly on the PC.

as such , while there are alot of games I can remember playing, I can't always remember the names of them

I do remember a game called Rise of the Triad that was pretty good, obviously Duke3D , also Hexen was very good.

That's System Shock 2. What about SS1? :O

Also, how about Descent and Descent II? Both awesome, still nothing like them.

Blood was also a great game, with similar gameplay to Duke 3d and a horror-movie take on things that was quite refreshing, though not the genre-changer that Duke was. If you lump it in with the FPS genre, Wing Commander was great fun as well.

I used to like shogo you can change from mech to like a car flying thing. It was 3rd person though wasnt it? System Shock games are still some of my favorite as well as dark forces. I used to spend much time on my PC playing pretty much all those games except marathon never played that one.

The Terminator: Future Shock was interesting:

3D polygon graphics and vehicle usage back in 1995.

Duke 3D, Heretic, Hexen, Rise of the Triad, Shadow Warrior, Sin and the Unreal series come to mind when I think mid-late 90's FPS games not made by id Software. Though there were quite a few more I'm sure I'm forgetting.

that is quite impressive. though you have to remmeber the PC was ahead of consoles at the time (still is to some extent). so its not too surprising. also bethesda apparently made it, they have gone down a long way from making technically great looking games to buggy games with mediocre graphics and some pretty bad glitches.

Yeah, they could give the Terminator franchise another "shot" :P

Though, their Oblivion was the last game I was really impressed with, technically speaking (Crysis too, but not to such extent).
