People ask the darndest things...lol

Ummm wow...there are sooo many great ones from the 16 bit and 32 bit eras...

Hard to choose one...Ratchet and Clank games are fun and all, but they are missing something...(I still love Insomniac studios though...so maybe a bit biased)

My own personal favorite was Spyro: Year of the Dragon for 3D platforming...it had just enough free roam but linear enough to get the job done easily...packed with many mini games and the boss battles were epic.

2D platforming has got to go to the Donkey Kong Country series.....Just something about the level design in all three games just felt oh so right...you could play these games for hours and never get board.

I'm going off the wall with this one...

Indiana Jones Greatest Adventures, released in 1994.

It had a lot of stages from the first three movies that followed almost religiously to the actual events of the movie. You were chased by a giant boulder, maneuvered a raft down the mountain side and had a mine cart chase through the temple of doom. It was really good game that I think was completely underrated.

Donkey Kong Country the 3 games developed by Rare on SNES. I love everything about the series down to it's gameplay and to it's classic soundtrack. I like the 1st Donkey Kong Country the best it's the one I've played the most.

Yoshi's Island on the SNES imo. It's everything that's great about platformers.

Because Super Mario Bros. 3 is my favorite game of all time, I would of course have to answer with that!

I think Daxter for PSP might be my favorite 3D platformer but I've played relatively few. For series, I think I like Sonic the best.

Banjo Kazooie on N64 is still one of my favourite games but close to that would be DK.

For me, it would be SMB3. Even though I myself have never played the entire way through, I get massive nostalgia from it. I think it was my first game ever. I remember playing at my now- deceased Grandmother's house... she and my dad would help me with it. And she was actually pretty good. Plus, it's just a fantastic game. (I've made it as far as the middle of World 7.)

None of the above.

My friends and I used to have a blast playing Incantation on the SNES.

2D: Knytt Stories 3D: Spyro the Dragon / Mario 64 Yes I DO think that Knytt stories is better than both Mario and Sonic. It's superb, it's freeware, if you haven't played it, download it NOW.

So many great ones, but Mario is basically where it all started for me (as far as platformers go), so I'll go with that.

The combination of (retro) Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, and Super Mario Bros 3 take a stand as best.

I really think Super Mario World is the best platformer ever made. I've gone back and played most of the greats and it is still yet to be topped imo.

My favorites are Donkey Kong Country 2 and Super Mario Bros. 3. :) Oh yeah, and as for 3D platformers I'd probably go with Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Voted for Mario on the poll.

I'd have to go with Super Mario 3 as the GOAT.

Honorable Mentions: Ninja Gaiden, Sonic CD and Super Contra.

Oh yeah, The Original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle for the Nintendo was pretty epic too. They don't make games that hard anymore.
