personally, I think river city ransom had the best music.

Ninja Gaiden I - Level 2-1 intro.
Faxanadu - Overworld theme
Legend of Zelda - Overworld theme.
Gumshoe - Pretty much all of it.
Castlevania 2 - Theme just before encountering Dracula.
Megaman has a lot of good tunes.
Many others...
I like the music in Mega Man 2 and Mega Man 3. In fact, I like almost all the music from all six NES Mega Man games, with the exception for Centaur Man's theme in Mega Man 6. That shrill noise is what I use it as the song that plays on my alarm each morning. :|UltimateXShadow
Lol, thanks for the idea. I think i'll burn some 8-bit music and wake up to it each morning :D
Pffft. Most of people's answers here are due to nostalgia alone. I listen to NES music more than I usually like to admit. I can pick out the games with catchy tunes surpassing just simple familiarity. Now I'll have to admit most of these I played when I was younger, so I can't compare to a lot of the obscure ones mentioned. Still, that won't stop me from being haughty about other people's answers!
Some otherwise unmentioned ones, from least awesome to most awesome...
Legendary Wings, Crystalis, WWF WrestleMania Challenge, Magician, Double Dragon II, Power Blade II
Yes indeed, Power Blade II has remained at the very top of my list for years now. There are lots of filler tracks for cutscenes and such, and those aren't very good, but the main tracks are the bomb. I'm usually only able to listen to a game's music so long before it grates on my nerves with its shrill instruments andembarrassinglybrainless melodies, but this one is very refined. It's one of the later NES game releases, and I think someone put a lot of love into it. (Actually, I just looked this up... it was composed by the same person who did Castlevania I music too. So, she had several years of NES music under her belt when Power Blade II came out)
By the way, I also agree with these that people have mentioned:
Rygar, Shadowgate, MegaMan 2 (definitely!), Ninja Gaiden III, Faxandu, River City Ransom

Again what other considers catchy is subjective. I personally donot like the music in Double Dragon 2, but I prefer the music in the Legendary Wings. Also the Conquest of the Crystal Palace, and Guardian Legend have some excellent music. Again its susbjective I donot agee wtih your list, and Wrestlemania would personally be no where near any of my top NES music list. But again thats just me.
Castlevania, I was always horrible at this game when I was a kid, but the music kept me playin' it =D
Also Blaster Master, I've actually only recently played this game. The first level music gives me involuntary head bops. I made it my Windows startup tune =D
Soundtracks by one or more of the Follin brothers, such as Silver Surfer (2, 3) Treasure Master, Solstice, Target: Renegade (2), Sky Shark and Wolverine. And Alien 3, Robocop 3, Overlord (inferior to the C64 versions, but still) by Jeroen Tel.
