I'm personally a huge fan of the N64 controller. I think it's brilliant design. No other controller can let you switch between d-pad and analogue control and provide a perfect, natural feel for both. And the z-trigger is an awesome innovation that's yet to be duplicated. The way I see it, multi-platform games generally felt "pretty good" using the N64 controller, but games exclusive to the N64 (especially first-party titles) felt perfect using the controller (Mario 64, Zelda OoT/MM, Goldeneye/PD, etc).

I dislike the N64 controller. It was a trident, and uncomfortable. Controls were often a pain as well. That said, I think the SNES controller is fantastic. Simple and slightly ergonomic.

I actually wasn't a fan of the N64 controller. The whole left side was pretty much obsolete.

I'd say the Wave Bird was the most favorable for me. It was very comfortable. Also, the Xbox's S-controller was pretty nice as well.

My favorite would be the dreamcast controller. I used to think the VMU idea with the controller was a silly idea when it first came out, but after owning one and playing its games...the controller vmu combination was brilliant. it does provide a neat, different experience and the controller itself way it feels is very comfortable.

Sega Dreamcast because contoured to your hands almost perfectly. 360 tops it, but that's not legacy.

Gamecube. I loved the triggers. Original Xbox controller was pretty cool aswell, but I hated where the black and white buttons usually placed. PS2 was good but the R2 and L2 buttons kind got on my nerves.

From what I have used: I'd say its a tie between the PSone dualshock and the Gamecube controllers, both fit into your hand perfectly and most if not all the buttons are easy to reach. I have also used an N64 controller and I find it quite comfortable and its anolog stick revolutionary, but the left shoulder button and the D-pad were hard to reach if I remember correctly.:( I also think the Mega drive/Genesis controller was great, too.

Gamecube was definitely the best controller ever made. Very comfortable and very functional.

it isnt hard to reach its just that most games dont use it or isnt required to use

For me, it's a tie between the Gamecube and Genesis 3-button controllers. Both have near perfect button placement, and are just plain comfortable to hold and use. If I had to pick one, though, it'd be the Gamecube wired controller.

it doesnt contour your hands perfectly it curves inwards instead of outwards so you have to cramp your wrists close together to hold it

For me it's a tie between the SNES and PS2. The X-Box controller was okay too, but it was a tad too fat and clunky for my hands.

I like the SNES best. it pretty much created the standard. Sony added sticks, and more shoulder buttons,Microsoft added triggers. But both of the main companys other than nintendo themselves have pretty much just been adding and improving to what nintendo started with the SNES.

The N64 had the greatest controller ever. Also, the Playstation series has a nice design, but since that is literally button for button ripped off from the SNES controller, I wouldn't like to give them any credit for it.

It is the Xbox controller-S. By a mile. The Gamecube Wavebird is a close second.

Dreamcast and N64 were really close i think. The Dreamcast was so good because the joystick and d-pad felt good. The 360 dpad is located terribly, and the joystick on the dualshock is just as bad.

Although, i did like the original Genesis (3button) controller.

That's one thing I don't like about the Dual Shock pads, the sticks are placed in a really uncomfortable manner, especially for FPS and TPSgames. Every time I try to play SoCom or UT on the PS2, it gets somewhat painful to use the sticks after a few minutes.

I can not believe that I'm the first to bring up the Logitech wireless controllers! Those controllers had an amazing feel to them, for both PS2 and Xbox. IMO, no other remote comes close. I favor the Xbox one though because of the triggers. I also like the S controller from the Xbox and the PS2 controller. I never cared for NES, SNES, Genesis, and I really couldn't stand the N64 or GC. However, I never had a N64, I only played my cousin's a few times.

The Gamecube and Saturn controllers. Both were comfortable especially the GC controller (also the Wavebird).
