Best Game Soundtrack?!?!

I was just thinking about game soundtracks and was wondering what you guys reckon is the best? With the exception to rock band or guitar hero etc.

It got me thinking because of Saint's Row 2, some of the songs on there are really good + they have paramore on there which just makes me love them even more. Then stuff like the black dahlia murder and as I lay dying and Taking Back Sunday. I was pretty impressed on what songs they had.

the mgs3 theme is one of my favorites.

and i love the music from all the metroid primes. though if i had to pick a musical standout, it would be 3.

if you are talking licensed soundtracks them im definately on vice city and san andreas, but if you talk composed soundtracks, im hanging with The Elder Schools 4: Oblivion and theres no doubt about it.

My favourite soundtrack has to be from the Halo games.

The best soundtrack apart from the game I don't know. However, halo soundtracks are amazing, especially while you're playing the game. In one key fight in halo 2 for example, a song started, and I didn't want to start the fight because I was afraid I'd die so soon that the song would not be able to finish. Oh, and the more laid back parts of halo 2 had amazing music to them. Somehow it fits the game better than any other music I know of.

Guitar hero/rockband, I'm not sure they count. At any rate, the rock soundtracks aren't very cohesive.

I'd say that my favorite soundtracks would belong to Homeworld, Shadow of the Colossus, and the Halo series. Marty O'Donnell is a notch above the rest.

Okami, which I'm playing right now, is also very interesting if you like traditional japanese beats.

Final Fantasy series have the best ones, especially VIII and IX.

Well, the Final Fantasy series all have great music (except for XII, shame on you Hitoshi Sakimoto!). If I had to pick ONE, it would have to be FFX, merely because of the ending theme. Soooooooo heart-wrenching...SaintNe123

AGREE, with big letters! I would also say the IX ending/theme song. Those sums it pretty much up.
