I've tried to play it a few times and every time I found that learning the controls was like learning a new language. The graphics were very blurry, the voice acting was poor, the music was too loud at times and out of place, the gameplay mechanics were clunky, and the controls were very laggy. I played it alright though, I'm not bad at the game. I just don't see why people talk so highly about Arma II. What am I missing out here? Please, enlighten me.

Hmm, I probably was expecting the wrong experience from the game.

It's a military sim, not COD.

Yeah, but do you really need to simulate a single easy jump through hundreds of menus? :/

It's for a certain, kind of, niche crowd that enjoys simulators and as far as what I've heard from those people they say Arma 2 is great. Personally, I hate it, I hate these kind of games but that's just me and my gaming taste and not the quality of the actual game.

I do think that in a military simulator basic movement should be as easy and intuitive as possible. It's not like basic movements are difficult in real life... Thankfully Arma 3 improves on this a lot.

Not really a simulator, just a rather realistic game.

I just liked doing AI vs. AI battles, and using the map editor. The game itself and multiplayer were two things I wasn't really something I was interested in.

People talk highly about it because it's a military sandbox game dedicated to pursuing an authentic feel and teamplay rather than "straighforward" action without any real teamplay.

Of course that doesn't mean it's perfect by any means.

It's simply that there is a lack of similar games and the Arma series happen to be the best in their category.

I played it on the PC once and I hated it. Too slow paced and boring.

The graphics can be made a little less blurry without a loot of work by turning off Post Processing (I think?), some of the weird feelings I found could be toned a little down by turning off mouse acceleration and most of the head bob, and even making the Field of View bigger. The loud music should be turn-downable in the Audio menu tooo.
I only played it a bit though.

but yeahh, it is pretty clunky! does some stuff well that might be hard to find in a lot of other games, but also has problems.
But it's something that some people really like either way :]

ArmA 3 so far gets rid of most of the clunkiness I find!
