are the ds dragon quests at all like dragon quest 8?

dragon quest 8 is one of my fav games.. i re-bought a 2nd hand ps2 just to buy the game again and replay it

i have a ds and am trying to track down cheap copies of the dragon quest games on it, hard here in oz as ds games never seem to go down in price

anyway, are these games at all similar to dragon quest 8? hoping so
