2020 was full of bad games but then there were other games that failed to live to the hype and promise that was left. Keep in mind that when I talking about a disappointing game I am talking about a game that while good or can be fun but it failed to meet all exceptions.

10: Resident Evil 3 Remake/Resident Evil Resistance
Platform: PS4/XBox One/PC
We start off with the remake of Resident Evil 3, granted it is not a great remake of RE3 and as a game it ain't all that bad. It still looks impressive and in a few ways they managed to refresh it half decently for a modern audience. The problem is that the remake removes some of the elements that made Resident Evil 3 great like removing the Clock Tower puzzle, some areas that were in the original were also removed plus the sequences with Nemesis are either nowhere threatening and mostly just heavily scripted. The biggest slap in the face is the Resident Evil Resistance Mode where it is a multiplayer mode where 4 players play as survivors and have to escape while 1 player plays as a mastermind where he places traps and other enemies after them. The Lag is atrocious being massive delays between hitting someone and then seeing the damage popup. Playing as either survivor or mastermind are unenjoyable and servers take a long time to find other players in lobbies. There are plenty of cosmetics that are gained from what else? Loot crates with microtransactions. Resident Evil 3 Remake could have been so much better if Capcom spent more time refining the Single Player experience rather than wasting their time and effort on a poorly thought out and put together mess of a multiplayer mode.
9: Battletoads (2020)
Platform: XBox One, PC
Developer: Rare, Dlala Studios
The first Battletoads to come in 26 years and it really should have been great. It had the beat em up style action, giant fists, the notorious Turbo Tunnel return but with the camera behind the bikes. It should have been incredible but however the new Battletoads game isn't. The new cartoony artstyle is ugly with the Battletoads looking very unrecognisable, the gameplay wasn't really all that refined and the writing and humour was very flat at best. This cartoony style should not have been the way for Battletoads to be brought back.
8: Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise
Platform: Nintendo Switch
Developer: Toybox Inc, White Owls Inc, Now Production
Deadly Premonition was a very polarizing game but hey at least it had some charm to it so the sequel had to be better right? Not so. While the game nails the horror aspect and it is serviceable with a cool storyline and characters but the game suffers from poor graphics even for a Switch game and also has technical performance problems. The absence of inverting the Y-Axis Camera turning was also inexcusable for a third person game. The game also received controversy surrounding a transgender character which was later addressed in a patch. This was a sequel that really could have done much better.
7: Iron Man VR
Platform: PS4 (PlayStation VR)
Wanted to live your dreams of being a super hero? Well you get to experience that with VR and here is Iron Man VR on the PS4 which brings out the feeling of being the Iron Man. The game somewhat delivers on the feeling of being the Iron Man and it nails the storyline well plus the controls work very well but however the game is so repetitive. All you do is fly to one area and fight some drones and then you fly to another area and fight more drones and it gets boring after the first few minutes. This was one of two VR experiences that sadly didn't quite deliver but hey at least it passes as a nice way to show off to others.
6: Mafia 2 Definitive Edition
Platform: PS4, XBox One, PC
Developer: 2K Czech
2K gave a complete remake of the Mafia games and the original Mafia getting a modern overhaul was a brilliant way to bring this openworld gem to a modern audience. While Mafia 1 remade did well the treatment cannot be said with Mafia 2, it's impossible to believe what went wrong with the Mafia 2 Definitive Edition but everything about the updated Mafia 2 was a travesty. While Mafia 2 Definitive Edition has all of the DLC Story content present but this so called Definitive Edition is a mess with nothing from the modern updates of Mafia 1 implemented into Mafia 2. It suffers from technical performance problems with a terrible frame rate that is unacceptable and it also suffers from a vast number of glitches, none of which were in the original version. It is a shame that they really didn't spend enough time to refine Mafia 2 for the modern audience before releasing leaving it as a complete mess.
5: Panzer Dragoon Remake
Platform: Switch, Stadia, PC, PS4, Xbox One
Developer: MegaPixel Studios
Sega Saturn's on-rails shooter classic Panzer Dragoon makes a return for modern audiences on more modern gaming consoles. It looks pretty impressive for a remake and it plays fantastically well but the game's length is a massive let-down. They could have had more content or any replay value available but nope the game doesn't last long and yet it got released for ￡19.99. Unless you still hold onto your old Sega Saturn copy somewhere in your attic I highly avoid playing this remake.
4: Predator Hunting Grounds
Platform: PlayStation 4, PC
Released by the same developers behind the abysmal Friday the 13th Video Game it is a asymmetrical multiplayer game where four players control the human soldiers while one player controls the Predator. It had decent ideas like being able to use both the humans and the Predator and playing as a Predator has some enjoyable moments but everything else is completely lackluster and there isn't enough variety to keep players interest. It does have it's share of cosmetics which are easily earned through what else microtransactions. Predator Hunting Grounds could have been somewhat of an okay Multiplayer game if it had more on offer but alas the hunt is over before it even begun.
3: The Last of Us Part II
Platform: PlayStation 4
Developer: Naughty Dog
Talk about overhyped then turned into one of the most polarizing games released this year. The Last of Us Part II tries but it is the definition of trying way too hard, it doesn't set the bar or have the same impact as the original game but at the very least looks so impressive graphically especially the violence which looks so brutal thanks to some neat gunplay. This game isn't on here because of gameplay issues or any kind of technical performance problems which yeah this does have only a small share of bugs & glitches but it's the game's storyline and narrative that didn't need to happen is why this is on here. Without going into any spoiler territory plenty of the story set pieces act nothing more than just interactive movie mechanics, Ellie's character development was all over the place and Abby without needing to talk about body physique or whatever has story portions that are completely uninteresting and everyone in her storyline are poor, have no real development and feel more one track instead of being meaningful. Just when you thought it couldn't get worse it goes on and on to the point of “When is it going to be over?” kind of tedium. To add insult to injury many, many users on Metacritic bombed the game massively for the subject matter and the game's storyline and narrative aspects and Laura Bailey getting numerous death threats and the site had to change policy for how user reviews were going to be handled. To show how bad 2020 was for not just video games this got multiple Game Awards. Now look The Last of Us Part II is NOT a terrible by any means it just didn't need to come out amongst the Coronavirus pandemic but it's also a vastly depressing sequel that doesn't do anything better than the original and considering Naughty Dog's attitude they took with this doesn't give them a bright future.
2: Cyberpunk 2077
Platform: PS4, XBox One, PC, Stadia, Switch
Developer: CD Projekt Red
For everything good about this game is it hurts to say that Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the biggest mess ups of the year. It has a fantastic setting, a great storyline with different ways of changing how it plays out, it has Keanu Reeves as one of the actors, it has plenty of ways of customizing your character and the city you explore in is incredible to take in. All of that is why Cyberpunk 2077 is good but it is not to say that it had a ton of bugs and glitches that ruined it more so on the PlayStation 4 and XBox One versions. Yes the PC version has its share of bugs but it's the console versions that suffered greatly as in like this should have been released in the state that it's in kind of bad. It suffers from constant stuttering and frame rate drops, awful performance, poor graphics rendering, the amount of bugs and glitches it has and the game crashes like all the time. This is a game that took 8 years to make and yet it turned to a big massive overhyped embarrassment. It's on levels of Aliens Colonial Marines, Duke Nukem Forever and Final Fantasy XV of games that are massively overhyped and have such a notorious development cycle. After release Sony delisted the game for the PS4 & PS5 on the PlayStation Store and begun issuing refunds with Microsoft also doing the same with refunds too. Patches have been made to try and address the amount of issues but it's not enough, the game is still playable and it is a lot of fun to play when it finally does work and deep inside the problems it has Cyberpunk 2077 is a good game. CD Project Red did offer up apologizes for how the console versions where not ready for lunch but they then ended up in more and more trouble. Hopefully we can wait for more patches for this game to come out in the next few months and also hope that they can pull the game out from being a total overhyped disaster.

1: Final Fantasy VII Remake
Platform: PlayStation 4
Developer: Square Enix
I'm going to be straight and honest with this one, Final Fantasy VII Remake is not good nor is it a total piece of garbage, it is however a real let-down that should not carry the Final Fantasy VII Remake name. There is a lot of things about the game that isn't good, the combat system suffers from worthless AI, camera that's all over the place the new side characters are one dimensional and forgettable and the mix between real time combat combined with the ATB bar is a little too much. The biggest issue is the over-reliance on padding instead of expanding on many of the aspects of Final Fantasy VII's storyline and lore and NO! throwing in ghost like Dementors stolen straight from Harry Potter with the ability to alter the course of Destiny is stupid and strongly out of place in the game and ruins the whole point of Final Fantasy VII's storyline. I know that what we got was only just Part I with Square Enix planning to release the other Parts as multiple games but with new consoles out it wasn't surprise that the later parts end up only on PlayStation 5. It's one thing that Final Fantasy isn't really good at change and doing new things right but changing Final Fantasy VII into something it shouldn't doesn't give me any hope of how the storyline of the later parts will play out. Deep inside my heart I still like Final Fantasy VII to a degree but the Remake's future ahead doesn't get off to a promising start making this my Most Disappointing Game of 2020.
