With the worst and big disappointing games all out of the way it's time for the big hits that we have been waiting for. We finally get to talk about the best released games that have come out this year, so which games made the top? Let's find out shall we?
Rules:
No remakes or ports of older games
Only games released in Europe count
10: Civilization VI
Platform: PC
Developer: Firaxis Games
We kick off this list with the sixth entry in this beloved simulation game. It gave balances to the various factions you picked which makes victory in any faction you side with achievable. It went on to sell a million copies within the first two weeks of it's release which is incredible.
9: XCom 2
Platform: PC/PlayStation 4/XBox One
Developer: Firaxis Games
Xcom 2 is the sequel to the fantastic reboot game where the story follows on from the events of that game. It carries over that deep strategy gameplay that really makes confrontation with the hostile aliens tense. You can setup each soldier with powerful weapons, better uniforms and also perform research to gain more powerful eqiupment to be able to stand a chance. There is also the new concealment which added more depth to the gameplay and procedural generations of maps which prevents players from falling to patterns. It still proves XCom has still got a fight to finish with those Aliens.
8: Dark Souls III
Platform: PlayStation 4/XBox One/PC
Developer: FromSoftware
You know when you are about to make it through tough levels but however Dark Souls III still has plenty of surprises that will keep on killing you till you eventually conquer it. The combat is still enjoyable and tough, the atmosphere is horrifying and fantastic and also as expected it's a Dark Souls game so are going to die....a lot!
7: Titanfall 2
Platform: PlayStation 4/XBox One/PC
Developer: Respawn Entertainment
The original Titanfall launched only on XBox and PC platforms and thank goodness with the sequel PlayStation players can finally jump into the power of the Titan. Done by the ex developers of Call of Duty the sequel took everything good from the first game and also improved the gameplay impressively allowing to go from fighting as a normal solider to fighting inside the Titan armour. Sure it didn't have as many players online at launch day but the impressive gameplay, enjoyable single player and multiplayer will make this game recommendable.
6: Battlefield 1
Platform: PlayStation 4/XBox One/PC
Developer: EA DICE
You guys might not be so sure about this one until you find out that this game rewinds the clock back to World War I and it is such a breath of fresh air. Featuring a single player campagin that has plenty of different soldiers to fight as with their own perspective and story. Multiplayer was just as incredible and addictive as ever both on foot and also on vehicles like armour trains, tanks, planes and a majestic stallion. Whether you joined the war in either single player or multiplayer Battlefield 1 was a war worth fighting for.
5: Pokemon Sun & Moon
Platform: Nintendo 3DS
Developer: Game Freak/Nintendo
To me Final Fantasy XV didn't live up to the massive hype that it could have lived up to since it's development and massive announcements. Instead the best J-RPG of this year goes to Pokemon Sun & Moon. Celebrating the franchise's 20th Anniversary this new instalment takes Poke-Fanatics into the Alola region where there are more new Pokemon species to capture, updated battle and training mechanics, improved graphics and lastly it introduced Alola forms of previous generation Pokemon. You can also use a Pokemon's mega form and also use their z-moves as well. It's another excuse to be able to catch em all and also trade with friends.
4: Overwatch
Platform: PlayStation 4/XBox One/PC
Developer: Blizzard Entertainment
Since they had a massive success with games like Diablo and World of Warcraft it's no surprise that they created another fantastic masterpiece on the gaming world. Overwatch is best described as a heroic team based shooter where it had a diverse cast of characters which all had different roles and also became fan favourites. All the competitive game modes were amazing and additive and enjoyable, the characters were enjoyable to play as and also it managed to attracted 9.7 million players for the open beta which was incredible. It's also a game that makes a brilliant target for esports and gaming tournaments around the world.
3: The Last Guardian
Platform: PlayStation 4
Developer: genDESIGN/SIE Japan Studio
We all would have fought that this game would never see the light of day but however after years of delay and switch to a new console we finally get to see the hugely anticipated and hyped game on the PS4. It's a very gorgeous looking PS4 game that tells the story of a young boy and a guardian beast named Trico. The setting was fantastic, the storyline and relation with the boy and Trico was deep and believable, the art direction was impressive and the puzzle gameplay was brilliant. We waited a long time for the game to come out and trust me, the wait was simply worth it.
2: Uncharted 4 A Thief's End
Platform: PlayStation 4
Developer: Naughty Dog
Drake comes back from his retirement from his success on the PlayStation 3 and moves forward onto the PlayStation 4 with a fourth game. Drake's story was just as impressive, the combat and puzzle gameplay was just as enjoyable as the previous games and both single player and multiplayer modes were brilliant. It's also a fantastic looking PS4 game with tons of detail and character put into it and also you'll love the hidden easter egg put into it.
Honourable Mentions:
Pokken Tournament (Wii U)
Dishonored 2 (PlayStation 4/XBox One/PC)
Deus Ex Mankind Divided (PlayStation 4/XBox One/PC)
Forza Horizon 3 (XBox One)
Tales of Link (iOS)
1: Doom
Platform: PlayStation 4/XBox One/PC
Developer: id Software
The king of all first person shooters is back and it is messier, violent and more brutal then it was before. Id rebranded this old franchise with familiar enemies and weapons and also took the violence to the extreme. This is because the best way to deal with the enemies is to shoot them enough so that you can finish them off with what the game calls the finishing moves glory kills which look absolutely sick by the way. You also got to love fan favourite weapons like the Chainsaw, Rocket Launchers, Machine Guns, Plasma Gun the BFG which are very impactful and of course brutal. The level design was also really good encouraging you to explore every bit of the level to get the various powerups and other stuff. The best thing about Doom is that it plays like the old school games with a fixed Health and no gun reloads. With superb gameplay, level design, awesome graphics and an amazing soundtrack Doom earns this spot as the best game of 2016. Rip and Tear!
Do you agree with this list? What were your other favourite games of 2016?
