AQWBlaZer91's Top 10 Countdown:

The Top 10 Worst games of 2013

The year 2013 comes to a close as the brand new consoles the XBox One and the PS4 have finally launched, both are getting mixed “Ahhhs and boos” from fans across the globe, it will take time to for those two systems to really showcase their next gen potential. It's that time of the year again to put what the best games of the year or the worst games of the year. This countdown talks about the worst games released this year and it's defiantly difficult to pick the worst lot because there have been plenty of bad games and reboots released this year. Be warned, some may not agree with the choices on this list.

10: Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games

Platform: Wii U

Genre: Party

Developer: Nintendo & Sega

Release Date: 5th December 2013 (Japan), 15th November 2013 (North America), 8th November 2013 (Europe), 9th November 2013 (Australia)

Mario & Sonic the iconic mascots haven't really cut the mustard with their latest minigame compilation in the Olympic Games. Many of the games and events are lacking, controls barely function most of the time and the online modes are limited. Unless they can get their controlling acts correctly, they best stay out of the real Olympic competitions in the future.

9: The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct

Platform: XBox 360/PlayStation 3/Wii U/PC

Genre: First Person Shooter

Developer: Terminal Reality

Release Date: 19th March 2013 (North America), 21st March 2013 (Australia), 22nd March 2013 (Europe)

Survival Instinct is what happens when some company decides to take the popular Walking Dead TV License and create a half baked, lazy FPS title loosely based on it as well as the fantastic TellTale games and the comic books. You'd at least be able to survive the games bad AI, horrible music, the game lacking any challenge or tension to the series and also the campaign is very short. This Walking Dead game deserves a nice shot to the head to ensure that the license gets better treatment.

8: Flashback

Platform: Xbox 360 (Xbox Live Arcade)/PlayStation 3 (PlayStation Network)/PC

Genre: Platform

Developer: VictorCell

Release Date: Xbox 360: 21st August 2013, PlayStation 3: 2nd October 2013, PC: 1st October 2013

Developer VictorCell rebooted an old platforming game made back in the 90s where rotoscoped animation and solid platforming was impressive for the time. This remake suffers from loose controls, stealth mechanics that don't work at all, levelling system that fells unnecessary and while you can play the original version of Flashback, it unfortunately has no sound what-so-ever.

7: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

Platform: XBox 360 (XBox Live Arcade)/PC (Steam)

Genre: Action

Developer: Red Fly Studio

Release Date: 28th August 2013 (World Wide)

Last year Nickelodeon renewed the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise on TV, once the series goes into the end of it's first season it becomes unsurprising that a game based on the new TV series would come. It's an action game in which it's battles play out like the Batman Arkham games except they are not fun. The camera is a constant problem being too close to your Turtle, the security door minigame is a real pain, there's plenty of online problems and technical glitches and on top of everything the game is way to easy. The AI is dumb and there are only 4 stages to plow through. Playing this game online only tries to make the experience better but that still can't discard the fact that Out of the Shadows is one awful game to play. It's better to remain in your shell until either it's PlayStation Network version fixes the problems it has or if it forever to passover. I think I'd rather play Turtles in Time on the Super Nintendo then play this mess.

6: Star Trek: The Video Game

Platform: XBox 360/PlayStation 3/PC

Genre: Third Person Shooter

Developer: Digital Extremes

Release Date: 23rd April 2013 (North America), 26th April 2013 (Europe)

Just when the new Star Trek movie comes to theatres, a video game loosely based on the material has to arrive on the shelves doesn't it. This game is like Uncharted in space with the worst AI functionality ever in a video game, dozens of bugs and glitches, uneventful story and very dull and very boring shoot outs. This is one game that I warn all hardcore Trekies to stay away from. If given orders to try it, simply beam out immediately from it.

5: The Fighter Within

Platform: XBox One

Genre: Fighting

Developer: Daoka

Release Date: 22nd November 2013 (World Wide)

The Fighter Within is nothing but a shameful launch title of the new XBox One console that tries to take advantage of the systems Kinect functionality. None of the inputs you try work at all and the game itself would only qualify as a terrible 360 Kinect game. It's very unacceptable for the Kinect to deliver motion controls this badly. This game proves that the programmers cannot make motion controls work with a fighting game. These types of games are best with a regular control pad instead.

Dis-Honorable Mention: Aliens Colonial Marines

Platform: Xbox 360/PlayStation 3/PC

Genre: First Peron Shooter

Developer: Gearbox Software

Release Date: 12th February 2013

What could seriously go wrong with a title that has been in a everlasting long delay since it's development back in 2001. Try to find the game development company that would revive the franchise and then finally after so many cancellations and delays, Aliens: Colonial Marines was finally released this year and sadly this game was most likely to have been released in a unfinished state. The game suffered with terrible AI, graphics that are absolutely poor quality and the Single Player Campaign was simply unenjoyable. It didn't make the list because of the DLC content and the Multiplayer modes were at least amusing. From how bad the game was, it stopped any possible chances of a Wii U port being released.

4: Way of the Dogg

Platform: XBox 360 (XBox Live Arcade)/IPhone/Android/PlayStation 3 (PlayStation Network)

Genre: Fighting

Developer: Echo Peak

Release Date: XBox 360 and PlayStation 3: 3rd May 2013, IPhone: 13th June 2013, Android: 4th July 2013,

Do you care for some DJ rap? then sadly you won't be getting fun out of this trashy fighting game that attempts to be like Rhythm Thief. Is having to press random buttons to the rythum for fighting any fun at all? Within the first stage you'll answer “No!” simply because this game washes out the same combos and buttons all of the time and it gets very repetitive quickly. If you see this on the downloaable market, do yourself a favor and don't get into it's groove.

3: Girl Fight

Platform: XBox 360 (XBox Live Arcade)/PlayStation 3 (PlayStation Network)

Genre: Fighting

Developer: Kung Fu Factory

Release Date: XBox 360: 25th September 2013 (North America and Europe), 24th September 2013 (North America), 2nd October 2013 (Europe)

Girl Fight is a poor fighting game that feels more of a copycat of other fighting games (primary Dead or Alive and Virtua Fighter) and it does it horribly wrong. Girl Fight features a line of female fighters in revealing outfits beating each other with very stiff fighting controls a terrible stuttering frame rate with horrible graphics. Girl Fight is a terrible fighting game that must be avoided at all costs.

2: Ride to Hell Retribution

Platform: XBox 360/PlayStation 3/PC

Genre: Action

Developer: Eutechnyx

Release Date: 24th June 2013 (Steam), June 25th 2013 (North America), June 28th 2013 (Europe) July 4th 2013 (Australia)

Ride to Hell is one game where it got canceled back in 2008 and this year being re-announced and then released as a completely garbage title. It lost the over world aspect that it was originally going to have in replacement of various bad design choices, women being portrayed in a obnoxiously misogynistic manner which is gross. It has some of the worst voice acting in recent gaming history with very terrible writing, the controls and every single aspect of the gameplay from shooting to bike raiding is so broken. The game even suffers from a long list of bugs and glitches and overall just unplayable. Stay away from it, don't even download this game out of any curiosity you might have with it.

1: All Final Fantasy Games released this year (Final Fantasy XI: Seekers of Adoulin, Final Fantasy: All the Bravest and Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn

Developer: Square Enix

Genre: Role Playing

Well one Final Fantasy game wasn't bad enough for both the fans and the company so rather then stream all the FF games together into the list or have any of the two as dis-honorable mentions. Instead all three really terrible Final Fantasy games deserve a well earned number one spot on this countdown. I mean what in the H'ell has the company done to the popular RPG series. All gamers ever wanted was Versus XIII or the Final Fantasy VII remake but it's obvious that we'll never see VII remake, but this is what we gamers get instead. Final Fantasy XI: Seekers of Adoulin is an expansion pack for FFXI which you'd think the game was forgotten about after 5 years since the release of the last expansion pack. After many years Final Fantasy XI is still not very fun to play with it's slow combat and losing EXP when you die, Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn is an attempt to fix the issues that the original games had. Unfortunately Square Enix didn't really fix all of these problems as there were plenty of server problems, some glitches still exist and the quests and combat is still nowhere near as improved. The game now has a monthly subscription fee and the price for the monthly subscription is outrageous on top of the game's retail pricing. Lastly there is Final Fantasy: All the Bravest which is the absolute worst of the three. The system has you literally swiping a finger to make your group of characters that you remember from the series win every single battle and it gets stupidly repetitive within seconds. Adding insult is including the use of micro transaction of having to pay real money to add party members and new locations to go to. You would think you can have Cloud Strife into your party but you'll get someone else instead. All the Bravest is no doubt the Worst Game of the Year but deserves a spot in the Top 100 Worst games of all time and also the worst game of the entire Final Fantasy Franchise. Square Enix is sure proud of themselves for making this game to literally steel our earned cash. Unless Final Fantasy XV (or Versus XIII as it was supposed to be) ever somehow makeup for all the really bad games they ever made this entire then all I have to say is that the entire franchise is doomed for extinction.

TMNT: Out of the Shadows shouldn't be on that list. As a melee combat game, it singularly outclassed this year's juggernaut Arkham Origins. Most of the complaints lodged against it were exaggerated bug claims and people knocking the combat because the couldn't be bothered to figure out how the controls differed from Batman: Arkham's.

If anyone had ever bothered to learn the differences between Arkham combat and the combat systems in any beat em up game this generation, they would understand that Out of the Shadows was one of the generation's highs, not one of the lows.

@El_Zo1212o: It is one of the low's. Have you ever read it's reviews by critics and fans?

Why would he care what critics have to say if he enjoyed it himself?

@IndianaPwns39: Because I always look at a score that a game got.

Exactly, the score from video game critics is the only way of judging whether a game is truly worth your time. I always look a the score too.
