I've played 2 AVN games, both by Dr. PinkCake, and I honestly thought the the stories were very well thought out. At the end of the day, yeah, these games fall in line with pornography, but, I was insanely hooked on these games on my first playthrough. I was browsing Steam when I found a game called Acting Lessons, which the first AVN I've ever read, and the first Dr. PinkCake game I've ever played. I saw that it had raving reviews and thought, "a porn game is getting overwhelmingly positive reviews?" and decided to look at the trailers and bought the game for $10. I was expecting to return it after a few minutes but found myself completely invested in the characters and the drama that was unfolding on my screen.

I'm a sucker for drama or romance stuff when it comes to anime and movies, so maybe that was one thing that was working against me when I launched this game because, 20 minutes turned into an hour, an hour into 3, 3 hours into a week. I couldn't put it down. The pornographic stuff was pretty funny, but you ever hear when viewers talk about watching their "favorite videos" for the "plot?" I was literally playing these games for their actual plot LOL.

The games I have played and became an instant fan of were Acting Lessons and Being A DIK. Both are on Steam, and both have fantastic OSTs. If you guys have played these games, we should discuss them because I was NOT ready for that ending in Acting Lessons. I was not OK for like 3 days.

And I realize how hilarious it is that I am typing about AVNs here, you guys can laugh. I think it's pretty damn funny that 2 AVN hooked me this bad.

I've never read an adult visual novel. Well, if I did I don't remember. HuniePop, a match 3 adult game had me hooked. I like good match 3 games. So I recommend it and hope I'm not too off topic.

Yes, but years ago. As ended up finding a lot of them worse and at times generic compared to a lot of other avenues with superior writing. Particularly poetry, which is a personal favorite pass-time outside of video games. Video games for me typically have weak writing and find difficult to invest in what is going-on.

On a note relevant to the thread, I would recommend Kara no Shōjo. Enjoy.

Yeah. I've only ever completed Kanon though. I do own a handful of other titles on the Switch and Steam. I find that most VN's can really be a hit-and-miss. My mind tends to wander if I read too much sometimes.

If the general atmosphere, characters and story is good, they definitely make for a good escape from reality. I guess that goes for anything entertainment related though.
