Activision releases initial GHIII song list

The upcoming game will use [wireless] Gibson Guitar's Les Paul and Kramer models for the controllers and include several new features including boss battles and online multiplay.

The game's initial list of songs include:
* Paint It Black (by The Rolling Stones)
* Cherub Rock (by Smashing Pumpkins)
* Sabotage (by Beastie Boys)
* The Metal (by Tenacious D)
* My Name is Jonas (by Weezer)
* Knights of Cydonia (by Muse)
* Rock And Roll All Nite (as made famous by Kiss)
* School's Out (as made famous by Alice Cooper)
* Slow Ride (as made famous by Fog Hat)
* Cult of Personality (by Living Colour)
* Barracuda (as made famous by Heart)

I'm liking this a lot, and if they keep it up its going to be better than GH2's soundtracj (which was inferior to GH1).  Anyhoo, Muse, Smashing Pumplins and Rolling Stones are the standouts there.  Its good to see so much diversity, and also, most of those are not covers, they got the real deal which is always nice.

The only one I dont like is Tenacious D, as I think they're boring with very bland humour...that and their songs dont really fit Guitar Hero I think. 

Seriously, MUSE?! As much as I like the band (and I do) WHAT THE HELL. They could have picked a much better band to cover. Song list sucks in my opinion but I don't care, more songs to 5 star I guess.

But I did notice sometihng interesting:

Half the song are masters. That should be good, atleast you don't get a half assed cover (Killing in the Name, anyone?).

Led Zeppelin is extremely difficult to negotiate with to license their stuff. It's why you rarely hear their music on stuff (save for that one car commercial...yuck). Same deal with Metallica and Van Halen (hence why the only VH song in one of those games thus far is a cover). Still, here's to hoping for some Black Dog, as SteelAttack suggested.

Pretty disspointing so far, I still want to see some metal monstrositys for the harder songs in the game. Lets see some Mastodon, Opeth and for godsakes some Slayer. GodModeEnabled

I don't know, man. I have the feeling that an Opeth track would be exceedingly difficult, unless it was something from Damnation. Still, it would be awesome to unleash some sick Slayer track such as Hallowed Point or Silent Scream. I bet they could secure the license with a beer keg or something, lol.

It would be great if they would put some Slayer on the soundtrack, even as a bonus song.  Dunno if Activision would be okay with the umm...material though.  Personally I'd be happy with some Killswitch Engage and some more Shadows Fall, but that's just me. :D

My favorite Led Zep song is "Over The Hills And Far Away"...but who are we kidding, they're not coming. We're not going to get "The Wall" either. Or even some Beatles. Cause god darn it, we have Heart. All is right in the world.

Personally, I'd like to see some Blind Guardian

and I'd second the Requests for Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest that's not "Breakin' the Law" (come on, something off Painkiller would be awesome)   I'd dream of "Victim of Changes" or "Tyrant", but Priest lost the rights to those tunes because of the crap deal their original record label gave them.  One can still dream though :(

Got to get some Hendrix on there!!! Little Wing come on now....
