2008 is Greatest Video Game Year Ever?

The only year that is close is 07 and I think that GTA IV, LBP, MGS4 and beat 07 alone. The factor in Fallout 3 ,Resistance 2, Far Cry 2, Fable 2, Rock Band 2, Devil May Cry 4. All of these games are superb and all have already been released or at least reviewed by every major site and magazine. Then Gears of War 2, CoD WaW, Mirrors Edge, Prince of Persia, Endwar. I could of forgot some but try to convince me that this is not the greatest video game year ever. (I know I didn't include Wii games but I don't really care about them)

2001 is much better

2001 rocked no doubt. This year as a whole was a bit meh.

This fall was amazing! We aren't even done with the games releasing. I have so many games on my wishlist it's unbelievable.

My favorite Years are: 98' 01' 03' 07' 08'

98' had mgs for me and zelda oot

01' had i think mgs2?

04' had mgs3, halo 2, half-life 2 and gta sa

07' had a lot lol

and 08' has mgs4, gta 4, dead space, fallout 3, fable II, and etc...

For me 1998 was 1 of the best years in gaming.

Every generation has its "greatest year."

For me personally, the year I got Ocarina of Time was my favorite year because the game blew my socks off since it was so amazing.

It's mostly nostalgia, yes, but my experience with that game has been more memorable than any game since.

I think 2008 is definitely the best year in gaming so far. With games like Forza 2, Fable 2 and Saints Row 2, some developers have really pushed the envelope in some of the most popular genres. They have implemented features to those ggames that either no one else thought of or someone should have thought of a long time ago. Now we can look forward to other developers attempting to further develop or innovate those features for even better and better games.

I can see you rpoint but I don't see why that's a factor. Halo 3 was a sequel, technically so was CoD 4. The only truly innovative game last year was Assassin's Creed which was a huge dissapointment for me personally. Mirrors Edge isn't a sequel. Next year will be better than this year with another CoD, Godfather II, the sorta new Halo, Resident Evil 5, Skate 2, Lord of the Rings Conquest, Alpha Protocol, F.E.A.R 2 Project Origin, Borderlands, Halo Wars, Velvet Assassin, Prototype, Batman Arkham Asylum, Fight Night Round 4, (Rumored Half Life 2: Episode 3), Mass Effect 2, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction, UFC 2009 Undisputed, Watchmen, Wolfenstein, Killzone 2, Just Cause 2, Bioshock 2: Sea of Dreams, Infamous, L.A. Noire (Most expensive production ever), MAG. I also believe an Assassin's Creed 2 will be released in 09 and others may as well.

2008 is the best year in gaming but 1998 was the most influential easily.

Most of 2008 is filled with excellent sequels, only 3 new IP's that will be big (LittleBigPlanet, Dead Space, and Mirrior's Edge)
