The Wii is 100% backwards compatable with all Gamecube games. You will need a Gamecube controller and a memmory card (Wii internal memory can not be used).

I'm not sure if it can because the gc discs are small and the wii is able to only read the proper disc size ofits slot

Lets just get this straightened out shall we: http://wii.nintendo.com/console.jsp

There, says it in the second box down on the right.

I have a Wii and play both Wii and GC games on it, they all work flawlessly. This is because the wii uses a updated IBM Power PC processor similar to the GC, no emulation required.Wii can take the standard GC disc's as well as the normal sized Wii DVD's.

This reminds me of how people, 7 years after the ps2 is out, still ask, can I save my ps games on my ps2 memory card, or vice versa. I'm like ???, CMON MAN 7 YEARS!
