Will you actually play FFXIV seeing as it's an MMORPG?

I, for one, won't be. Why? Because I hate MMORPGs, it might as well consume my life. I'm boycotting FFXIV and Star Wars: The Old Republic primarily because of the genre of game they are. To be truthful, I love both of those series, but I have other things in life to do. The question remains simple.

I don't find it outrageous. The only thing that will make me think differently is if a free MMORPG released on the retail market has this:

- No in-game advertisement

- A seamless world on dedicated servers.

- No P2P game hosting what-so-ever!

- Items in-game can not be purchased or sold for real life money.

- Updated consistently for free. Accept for retail expansions of course.

- Multiple characters on a single server; no additional cost.

To not expand further on this list; pretty much a free MMORPG that pays for itself and doesn't have to exclude some of the basic features(I'm looking at you Guild Wars) that makes an MMORPG an MMORPG. To be truthful, there is no such thing. That's why I'm curious about the well being of DC Universe Online(which will be F2P). Anyway, I can't wait to play Final Fantasy XIV.

No and I'll tell you why: I've never played a Final Fantasy game online. For me the series has always been about the solo adventure, personal chemistry with the characters, and immersion in the story. I'm not saying I'd would never be open to the possibility and I'm not going to bash the idea because I know that there are people out there who are just stoked about playing a Final Fantasy MMORPG so I'm not going to rain on their parade. For now I just want to play Final Fantasy XIII!:) I'll be happy with that.Koi-Neon-X

All of us, including myself would rather jump on board with Final Fantasy XIII before any other game from the franchise hits stores(accept for maybe Versus for some).

I'm only excited with FFXIII because it is "Final Fantasy". If not, it just don't appeal to me that much. Characters don't look unique... And they made fools out of my beloved summons. :evil: Not to mention the LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time of waiting.Fantasy_Gamer

They are really silly, but at least they brought back traditional summons. The only new one is Brynhildr, or however you spell it.

FFXI was the first & last MMO I've played. It had a spell on me. I hated the grinding & later the fact that only certain jobs were considered when making a party which left me out of the loop. But the best part to me was experiencing the battles & what little story it had with other "real" people. It was a blast to log in & find people you've done battles & quest with. Also to be part of a Clan that can help you out. That was the best part for me....but then the spell wore off & I haven't played an MMO since.

I will be trying out FFXIV. I just hope my wallet & my wife are prepared for the late might, zombified look, neglecting everything, less eating transformation I'll be getting again. Can't wait....

I love FF and i have a ps3 so if i have to pay 10 bucks a month to play it so be it. It looks incredibly fun and if it is a time consuming game i wont buy as many games.

Of course. FFXI Rocked and i recommend FFXIV because it looks to be better.

Most MMO's give you a week or two, maybe a month free, to try it out & sink their claws into your brain. I wouldn't be surprise if FFXIV came with a code that would allow you to try the game out for free for a certain amount of time. FFXI did....if I'm not mistaken. All they need is a few days to get you hook & paying like a drug addict. If you don't plan to pay then I say, don't even temp yourself by sampling it. It could cost your social life, your sleep & your wallet. For those who are willing to pay, hope to see you there..........on the darkside...mwhahahaha.

I for one will be playing it hands down..... Im a fan of MMOs and im a fan of final fantasy, since day one. and something seriously needs to be said..... a couple things really.

To every single idevidual here who is adamantly opposed to the thought of paying 50cents a day.. u obviously have no idea what is involved..

Games that operate online and host on a dedicated server must be upkept.. there has to be maintenece, and constant monitoring. Also.. these servers are stationed in dedicated enviorments and have to be taken care of as well. Ill go on.

Creating an mmo and releasing it is NOT the end of its development... dev teams are on a constant shift... working on new contet.. special events.. balancing, and handling player concers and complaints.. then u have the billing department for all this.. in the real world .. people are usually paid for doing there jobs.. your 2 quarters a day are what assist in funing this.. otherwise u would have micro transactions and in game advertisment like Guild wars - the only succecsfull mmo- and all immersion would be thrown out the window..

U guys need to understand that you are p[aying for a service... u cant justify opposing a subscription fee because u have spent 50 or 60 bucks on the game... with out these subscription fees.. these types of huge fast open world mmos are impossible to maintain for a long period of time. That is the cold hard truth. Those that are complaining are most likeley not mmo fans and are under the age if 18 maybee or just around that age.. and possibly cant afford it. Ask a freind at school for a quarter, then ask another freind for a quarter...give it to your mother, have her put it on her card and badaboom. If u can afford it and have your own card.. and refuse to pay it, you only selling yourself short of a most likely amazing expereince with hundreds of final fantasy fans of like mind..... 50 cents a day people... not that serious.
