An RPG to me is numbers flying up into the air when people/monsters/summons recieve damage. Having commands to choose from. Having Hp and Mp or Lp. Though I think Dp is stupid (Romancing SaGa, Durability points). Also, I think an RPG should have mutliple characters to choose from. Not just one. And having a "party" is a must for me. I like having the fact where if one of your party members die, the other ones can heal or revive them. Unlike other games where you only control one character on the field and there are NO other characters you can use or NO allies, it's game over when you die. Classic RPGs should have glass-chattering or something like that that brings you to another screen to battle.
I am I GIANT fan of Radiata Stories right now. I love this game. It's so much fun. And the comedy is hilarious. I recomend this game to everyone!Â
I also like the Romancing SaGa, although it's really hard. I've gotten gameover 3 times in 40 minutes D:. They don't tell you how hard the enemies are in one area or how hard a mission/request is. But this game is actually really fun and it keeps you on your toes rather than just sitting through multiple battles with the same enemy that will never get stronger and leveling up slowly. Because after you reach a certain amount of battles, all the enemies get stonger. There is no leveling up in this game. Only invisible points where after almost every battle, at least 1 or 2 of the characters should have a stat gained. Like "Claudia's Hp increases" or "Guella Ma's Strenght increases". Also, this game is like 8 games in one. Well, more like 8 stories in 1. And most of them are pretty interesting. Haha I bought the Brady walkthrough for Romancing Saga because it was so hard. I want to get Unlimited SaGa still even after all those horrible reviews. I don't care what people say, I still want it. I find the battle system very interesting.    Â
Currently playing Dragon Quest VIII right now. I don't like it much, I only bought it for the demo of FF XII :D which was so worth 65 bucks (Canadian). I'm also currently playing Drakengard. The story is pretty cool just the battle system is so...anoying. But at least you get to use more characters rather than just Caim. But a really good RPG series people should get into is Shadow Hearts. I only got into them from Shadow Hearts: Covenant and I want to get From the New World and the first Shadow Hearts.
I'm a fan of turn based RPGs and Tactics.
I liked Tactics Ogre: Knights of Lodis (GBA), and Eternal Eyes (PS) and thats all that is on the top of my head. I'd have to puruse my collection to come up with more examples.
Chrono Trigger, Kingdom Hearts, Golden Sun, Xenosaga, Tales of and I've been meaning to play Fire Emblem some time (I have the one for the GBA). Kefkamania05
I haven't played the previous one but the Fire Emblem Sacred Stones one was very good. I enjoyed it.
Advanced Wars: Duel Stike was good too.
I like Kingdom Hearts but I'm not crazy about it.
I went back old school and have been playing Legend of Dragoon, I'm the the 4th disc, but it's not working too good, and it's gunna be impossible to find another one. Dark-Messenger
I just got that not too long ago at circuit city. I haven't played it that much but from what I did play I loved it. Not bad for 15 dollars I might add ^_^
Thats interesting.
I might check it out this summer. I prefer portables though, that is my most of my console games haven't been beaten lol. Although I have beaten almost all, if not all, of my GB/GBA/DS games.
The Chrono series is the epitome of RPG gaming in my opinion, followed closely by the FF series of course.
Shadow Hearts is a great series, and Xenogears is fantastic also.
I'm quite partial to NAMCO's Tales series, and Nippon Ichi strategy games are wickedly good.
Until Kingdom Hearts came along i didn't particulaly enjoy action RPGs, but i love them now, Y's VI was a nice little break from turn based battles as well.
It's Game On!!!
FF
Lunar
Suikoden
Grandia
Chrono
Wild Arms
Xenogear/saga
Pokemon :)
Persona/Megami Tensei
Tactics Ogre/Ogre Battle
Harvest Moon :)
I'm looking into getting the Shin Megami Tensei RPG's but dopnt have a US or JP PS2, The only one I know of that was released on European shores, was Nocturne (its called Lucifers Call over here) which I'm going to get pretty soon.
I LOVE Disgaea and quite enjoy Makai Kingdom also, but I'm not all that interested in FFTA, I just cant get into it. In fact a couple of GBA RPG's I've found difficult to get into, I quite like KH:Chain of Memories and Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django, but never got on with the Golden Sun games, the characters and story felt lacking in something.
RivaOni
Nocturne is a very good game but it will affect you if your a religous person. but the game is very fun and enjoyable.
