If that were true, how could prophecies still be made, and be proven accurate, today? Because actually, I've witnessed them.barren167

People have witnessed UFO sightings, Sasquatches, Nessie, Dragons, and even Unicorns.  You have to give a better defense than "I've seen it myself!" if you want to prove yourself.

This reminds me of when Aidan was 100% convinced he saw a UFO a few months ago.

Actually, he did see UFO. Given that UFO means "Unidentified Flying Object", and no one ever identified what is was that he saw, it was a UFO. Now if he claimed to have seen a Flying Saucer or Alien Vessel, that's another story.

Honestly thinking that an age-old book or transcript can predict modern events or happenings with anything other than pure, dumb luck is absurd.

I think the more likely scenario is that people read these vague prophecies and then when something even remotely similar happens they adapt the prophecy to the event.

I don't know, some of them were pretty specific... "Knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, 'Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.'" (Second Peter 3:3-4, rest of the chapter is even more specific). Sound familiar? The wording is a few thousand centuries old, but the message is quite accurate about certain people today.

That sounds pretty vague to me. It just says scoffers, not specific people.

And it also says "at the end of days." To the best of my knowledge, we are not at the end of days. You are simply taking a vague "prophecy" and adapting it as you see fit.

If it did list specific people, those people just would say nothing, it's self-defeating. In this case, it says what they do end up saying, and nowadays, that is what people say.

To the best of my knowledge, we are. And it's not adapting a prophecy, because there really are people that say "the world always has been and it'll just keep going, ignore what those guys say". They're a lot greater of a minority than they'd like to believe (polls show that roughly 97% of America has some form of religion and at least 90% is Christian, despite what the internet might claim), but they are very vocal.

People have thought we were in the last days for centuries. I don't see why it would be now. http://religions.pewforum.org/reports/ And according to this 16% of Americans don't.

But if a higher being like God knows who these specific people are, why couldn't He name them? He knows the future, so if He said that Jacob Smith would scoff at what He taught, wouldn't that be bound to happen even if Smith read it and went "Oh well I just won't say anything"?

Also, the world is full of various viewpoints on religion. Not all of them adhere to Christian/Catholic faith specifically. All I'm saying is that prophecy just calls out "scoffers", which could be Jews/Muslims/athiests/agnostics/ignostics/anyone that doesn't share the same faith. It's very broad.

Okay, here's the rundown of what's happening so far; Mariostar is a nutcase. Deception is a nutcase-in-training. Wetty is indifferent. MD and Jenkins know what they're talking about. Sentinus is being a dick. Zoidberg is the best Futurama character.

Is there a problem? People would much rather talk about an awesome animated show than have you chew their ears off about prophecies and speculation from a long-dead age. Not to mention, anyone who doesn't think Zoidberg is the best character of every cartoon ever is delusional.

It was *NOT* a plane. It was a large boomerang shaped object! With lots of lights! :x Probably the vanguard of some alien strike force.
