I have warmed to the pre-order over the last few years, mostly owing to the incentives. So, what do you have pre-orderd at the moment?
I'll go first:
- Nothing
Currently:
Gears of War 3
Mass Effect 3
At any given time I used to secure seven to ten games via pre-order, however I have found that different vendors tend to make some pretty crazy offers closer to release date. INfamous 2 springs to mind. Future Shop discounted the Collectors Edition and tossed in INfamous 1 as an incentive, which caused me to can me EB pre-order.
In the case of Gears 3 I assumed that because of the scope and the size of the release there will not be many great secondary offers tied to them, and EB also allowed me to pre-order to super deluxe version.
Mass Effect 3 they assured me I would be called and offered the upgrade when Collectors Editions were offered.
I would love to pre-order Saints Row the third but I have no money at all...waflerevolution
yeah having no money sucks
it sure does... I can't even afford food or bills most times... and everything I own broke at once... so that's not helping...waflerevolution
which is why i'm still living at home  :(

YIKES! no thanks
yup... life is hard sometimes... but we do what we must.waflerevolutiontis truer words never spoken. yesterday plunked down $5 for the Uncharted 3 CE
I'm ticked I didn't pre-order the Catherine: LiO DE. And even if there is still time, I don't have the extra funds. Hopefully there will still be a few around come early August.
But I do have one pre-order right now:
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 (DS)
Of course, anything DW/Q is my weakness. :P
-=-
Are folks getting Catherine on PS3 or 360?cosmostein77
PS3. I read a couple of reviews that said it controlled a bit better due to the d-pad and looked slightly better as well.
Regardless, for me, PS3 is my default machine for multiplats unless it's a shooter or something is just terribly wrong with the PS3 version (like Bayonetta's blurry textures)
If its good the plan would be to secure it on both consoles;
However are they generally equal, or does one version have an addition perk the other does not?
I had a horrible pre-order experience with EBgames regarding Gears of War 3 that cause me to simply limit pre-orders to rarer RPG special editions.
I put the full 149.99 + taxes down when I pre-ordered the game when it was announced (early summer/late spring?)
The day prior to its releases I was called to fly out to the west coast for a few days for work, I get a call the day of the release letting me know that my game was there while I was in San Fran. I told them I would be in Friday or Saturday as I was out of town at the moment.
I was told it was policy to hold games like this for 48 hours and no longer; This annoyed me a little bit because I had paid for the full game and was not simply holding their inventory for five bucks. I explained that to him and said if it was that much of an issue they could just sell it and issue me a refund when I got in.
He understood and made a note that I would pick it up over the weekend.
I got home Friday early afternoon and swung by the EB as I was heading home from the Airport, I handed them my drivers licence for the pre-order and he went to the back to grab my game, as he was coming up the manager who looked beyond angry stormed up to the front ahead of the clerk with my game, I of course assumed he was going to yell at the kids who had been playing on the Xbox 360 demo.
Then he started unloading to me about their 48 hour policy and that I was lucky they kept it and this was a one time exception, and that I was tying up inventory, and yadda, yadda, yadda.
I couldn't help but smile, not because I was being a jerk but because this was so surreal.
At this point, I sort of chuckled and explained I paid for the game in its entirety months ago and technically it was my inventory and then simply had the clerk refund any pre-orders I had on the books.
Am I being unreasonable here?
I don't think I want to get the poor sod fired; We all have bad days and while he may have been a jerk canceling several pre-orders which I had paid full amount for the game was a slap on the wrist enough (in my opinion)
What bothers me is that if there is actually a policy of holding the games for 48 Hours?
I fully understand that if you put five bucks down you shouldn't be able to show up three weeks later and demand your game, however if that policy applies to games which I have paid in full for prior to release then I simply see no value in the pre-order mechanism.
For RPG special editions there may very well be some value as many places simply do not stock it.
However for stuff like Gears or Mass Effect I can normally score that the day of release at a big box retailer and normally get some bonus for buying it there as well (normally a terrible game or t shirt)
It just annoyed me that I who was doing them a favor buy assuring I would purchase the games from them would get scolded because I didn't grab a game they had TONS of within 48 hours?
It appears to be a situation where policy surpasses common sense.
trust me, that's just the tip of the iceburg my friend... if no noe inquires about the pre-order money after a given amount of time, the DM comes in and cashes them out to the corporate account permenently and they are removed from the in-store records... though the way the card tracks everything you do now, I doubt they can get away with that anymore... but even still, yes, they used to only hold stuff for 24 hours, 48 is a rather new policy.waflerevolution
Wow!
I am normally very prompted about picking up pre-orders, however if on the off chance I forgot about one the idea that they would cash me out is reason enough to never do it.
THERE IS NO EBGAMES, JUST BECAUSE GAMESTOP DIDNT SWITCH THE LOGO ON THE FRONT OF THE STORE DOESN'T MEAN IT'S AN EBGAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
for christ sake people, you aren't dealing with EB, EB was good to people becaues their corperate cared, Gamestop doesn't care about anything but the bottom dollar and they don't care who they cut to get it. Every time you call a Gamestop an "ebgames" , you insult rhe memory of not only EB but every other store gamestop destroyed to get to the top... Funcoland, Software Ect., Babbages, Rhino Games, Game Crazy, hundreads of thousands of mom and pop stores, local chains and other smaller game stores... I cannot, and will not tolorate people saying nice things about gamestop anymore... employees sure but not the store, any of their policies or anything else store-based. I've been preaching this stuff for 12 years since I was still managing the damned stores... they are evil. EVIL!

Calm yourself, man, it's just a store chain. We get it: Wafle hates Gamestop, but are there any teeth is this statement about not tolerating people saying nice things about Gamestop? Unless you plan to crisscross the country Jay and Silent Bob Styl e and smack the Gamestop goodwill out of people's mouths, this is all moot.
Here are the games that I have pre ordered at the world's greatest game retailer aka GameStop! Not only do they always give me free store displays and promo items since I'm rad, but their friendly and knowledgable staff have literally stood on their heads to make me happy.
The Elder Scrolls V: Syrim (360) with special edition guide.
Assassin's Creed Revelations (360) with special edition guide
Super Mario 3D Land with free tanuki suit keychain
The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword Collector's Edition with special edition guide
Mario Kart 7
It should also be noted that I went to a sweet midnight launch at GameStop for Batman Arkham City that was a lot of fun. Pics of the collector's edition can be found in my profile.
wow, i've never ever had any troubles at my EB Games
Big_Evil666
I never had a problem prior to this one issue;
However I had never picked up a game more then a day beyond the released date.

actually it's still EB Games in Canada. the manager of my store said that all Gamesops will be making the switch back to EB Games name sometime soon, at least in Canada any ways. apparently the "Gamestop" name didn't catch on and was confusing to people. and when given the option, moe people apparently made the choice to go into an EB Games over Gamestop. if that makes any sense. i dunno it might be all bs, but seeing as he is the manage, you'd think he'd know wtf he's talking about
it's EB in NAME ONLY it's still GAMESTOP. Corpoate rules make a company what it is. and no, just being a manager does not mean they are not talking out their arse... I know better because I am smarter. period.waflerevolution
wow really? seeing as though you don't know the guys at my EB, which i do trust, u can't say they're talking out their arse, so now u don't know better and no u ain't smarte. sorry but there's no need to be such a douche abou this man, i mean u think u know it all but u really don't know jack and could be talking out your a$$
The EB Corpoate offices are gone... forever. they merged into the Gamestop ones and operate as part of the Barnes and nobles subsideary. you are wrong, they are not a seperate company. they never will be again... their policies are the same as gamestop, their merchendice is the same, their pricing is the same and their corporate office is Gamestop... and ultimatly they take orders from Barnes and Nobles (the real corporate) and Sony (who owns a very large controlling share).
this is all public knowlege you can feel free to look up. you can say I clean vagina all you want, the fact is you are wrong, they are wrong and I do know better about this subject apparently. not much in the world I'm really aware of but this in fact one of the few things I do happen to obsess over and keep up to date on as well as find out every dirty little back-room deal and any public info on. I'm sorry the facts make you so defensive but they are facts.
You can tell me I don't know jack, you can me I am talking out my rectum and hell, you can ****ing tourture me. I don't care. YOU ARE WRONG! Your "facts" come from "he-said, she-said" mine come from legal documents, corporate invoices, corporate info on "EB's" website... it;s literallyall public info. the fact that you're in denial or just delusional or possibly just trying to ruse me... does not and will not change that. you're either ignorant or an ** hole... that is all there is to it at this point. I just can't see any other reason you'e fighting a point that's easily proven wrong... it's totally rediculous.matter of fact, I don't even want to talk to you anymore... ever again. you resorted to name calling and insults becuase you can't admit you're wrong. that's fox news stuff right there.
Can we at least TRY not to threadjack every topic with some hangup about something? For **** sake, I'm gone for a week and we've got people jumping down each other's throats in the "Watcha got on pre-order?" thread.
FYI, Wafle--you can't hate Gamestop out of existence and the more you mudsling them in the forum, the more your credibility erodes. Most of us have a slight fondness for the store, b/c it's a place where you can buy and pre-order videogames. Dark corporate underbellies don't interest most of us, 'cuz it's assumed that most companies have them.

I know that and I don't argue that anymore... I'm just not letting anyone insult EB by calling the ones that still exist in name only as such... and it is in name only... no matter what the chuckleheads think.
also, I currently have nothing pre-ordered. also, for the record, you can pre-order games at most stores now... and the almost all have pre-order bonuses.
