Here is a map of locations of CCU members:

Candid Collectors' Union Members

If you would like to be added to the map, just post your general location in this thread, such as city, state, province, region, or what not, and country. No specific addresses please; we're not looking to help anyone that may be hunting you down.

Please feel free to make suggestions!

Updated. So far, we're spread pretty evenly across the eastern half of the continental US. Anyone wanna represent for the west-coast? U.K.? Australia?

No wonder you have a Slacker's purchase every whipstitch.  I've been to the Jeff City location...

I'm located in Aggieland, otherwise known as College Station, TX.

Up to date. Please check the map and let me know if anything is off or otherwise needs fixin'.

Aspro, clubhaxor, did you know you two were so close to each other? You're only like an hour away.

There now appears to be a "belt" of CCU members extending from castlevaniap down in Jefferson City, Missouri and up through cosmostein77 in Ontario Canada.

This map is a great idea.

You know what I think would be cool? To have small versions of our Gamespot user icons on the map. Is that possible?

Sanctuary's in Washington state, if I recall correctly.  There are about three CCUers in my town, but they lurk, so I doubt they'll pipe up for this thread.  The user icon thing is neat, Inkwolf.  Is it linked dynamically?  Also, thanks for making this happen a lot better than I was planning.  My first idea involved actual pushpins.  It wouldn't have been pretty.

No kidding.  Small World, indeed.

Joe sold and it is now Mike's Comics.  Nice guy, I stop buy once a month or so for my manga.  Joe had another shop around Groesbeck & 11 Mile and as far as I know is still there.

Google lets you use any image URL to referense as a "pin", and they resize down to 64x64 if necessary. I originally used the avatars as is, but they were way to big and "blocky" looking; really ugly. So I fired up gimp and crossbred the original Google pins with the avatars to come up with what's on the map now. I uploaded those to my GameSpot images section so they could do the hosting; Google explicitly states they do not save the images locally, so if you want to change the pin, you could change the source image without having to modify the Google map. So, you could say it's dynamic in that sense.

Also, thanks for making this happen a lot better than I was planning. My first idea involved actual pushpins. It wouldn't have been pretty.gmsnpr

Is that like using white-out on a Word document?

I presume that (1) You're requesting to be put on the map, and (2) in Wichita, Kansas. If either of those two assumptions are incorrect, just let me know.

Um, I have four different locations, none of which can really be considered my primary address, so I'm not sure what you'd want to do with this information but...yeah.

Houston, TX

Covington, GA

San Clemente, CA

Destin, FL

Well, I can place you in all four areas if you feel you really split your time evenly across each in the course of a year. Otherwise, perhaps try to figure out which of those is really in the majority. For example, back when I was in college, I spent my summers back home with my parents in central Florida, but since most of my time was up in Tallahassee, I would have considered that my primary location.

If you don't mind me asking, how and why do you spend your time at each location?

Houston's where I'm traditionally from, but I spend only like a month or so there a year, only really for Christmas. Covington is where I go to school, but I'm there only maybe...6 months of the year since I often travel on weekends etc, not to mention I only have a few of my games there. San Clemente is where I live over the summer, I live there with my wife and work there from around early May to late August. Destin is where my wife's parents live now, and I'm there about 2 or so months out of the year over various breaks and vacations and whatnot. So I mean, it's pretty varied, if you had to pick just one I'd say pick Covington but, despite my living there most of the time, very little of my game collection is there (we're talking maybe...10-20 legit games). Most of my collection is in either Destin or Houston. If you were to follow my game collecting pattern, you'll notice that I pick up very few games unless I'm in one of those two places. San Clemente is basically where all my games come together at last, so that's pretty significant to me.

So I dunno, choose wherever.

My avatar picture is actually just a small cut out of a larger fractal that I made in the 90s using a fractal program like FractInt. It is basically a cut out that has been filterized in photoshop. I am a bit of an artist who used to create a lot more graphics and art than I do these days.

You can add me to Decatur Illinois! I actually live in a small town right below Decatur, with only 400 people living here, but Decatur is a lot bigger and much easier to find on a map! Also a couple of you may have actually heard of it? I think I read that someone lives in Mattoon? That's cool!

That sounds an awful lot like Dalton City or Hervey City (if you're down 121) or Macon or Moweaqua (if you're down 51).

Very small world!

Wow!!! JollyRoger, your first guess was right on the money! I can't believe ANYBODY else has even heard of DC! LOL... Small world indeed! I'm guessing you frequent Game-Xchange a lot too? It looks like the Midwest and the East collect more than the West... I wonder why that is.

Oh, and also, I left a post in the most recent leaderboard thread. No one has answered yet, so I will ask here. How do I see when I added a game to my total? How do you guys get the numbers for a years aquisition total? I think had I been a member for a year (not sure how close I was), I would have been vowing for that title, but I'm not sure.... Help me out here... please... Thanks!

Well, I grew up in Gays (Google map it...and Wikipedia it...seriously) and my dad spent almost 30 years in IBEW #146 before retiring.  I used to ride up to the union hall with him on occasion when I was a kid.  I also played JFL at the field by the Firestone plant, and played random occasional baseball and basketball games around Blue Mound, Cerro Gordo, and the Assumption/Moweaqua area.

I PM'd you part of it, but I forgot about the year tally.  If I'm a betting man, the totals were taken from the first update of the year and compared to the last.  If you weren't on in January 2008, you probably didn't get into the year-end review.

My apologies for the thread hijacking...you may return to your regularly scheduled programming.
