An idea just popped into my head. What if you could rate a certain post from 1 to 5 stars depending on its quality and that user's average rating can be displayed under their username. I don't know if it's that great, but seemed cool.
I think this feature is sort of pointess considering in a board like system wars where a new topic comes every 30 seconds. If you wanted to see the quality of a topic then all that is needed is to look at the activity icon see if it is hot or not, check how many posts its got, and if the title is legible.
I am sure something like this has been suggested before but i don't think its a good idea. The system would be abused more than it would be used like it would meant to be used. People would just disagree with your opinion and give you a bad rating, it wouldn't be fair.
This has been suggested before and I see a potential monster of a downside to it: the system wars board. A user could post something about system X being better than Y and the user who craves for anything of system Y would rate the thread as one-star. Those for system Z would do the same - one-star rating. Those of system X, however, would rate it 5 stars. This fanboyism would cause a lot of meaningless 1 to 3-star ratings. The "off topic" forum is about the only one that could actually be okay with this sort of thing, but then again, there's some users who, just for the fun of it, go around rating everything 1-star.
In short, I strongly disagree with adding this feature.
Each post? Definately not. Maybe you could be able to rate threads but rating singular posts seems very useless. (Sorry if it comes off as ignorant, just a strong opinion :P)
this would be abused way too much, but a voting system for a thread would be better than per post_Sam_
the same goes for that too tho, would be severly abused aswell, its not a bad idea by any means, but it will be abused and abused over and over again and then just end up bein takein out anyway, i say we save us all the trouble and just dont add it
