Image uploading (avatar) fix here!

Open Chrome and press F12, or Firefox and CTRL + Shift + K. Go to the console and paste in:

$('head').append('<meta name="roles" content="elkrules" /> ');

The button should now work

You can also do this on a forum and use it to post images!

@Elk: I'd like to try it out but cannot save after pasting the line into the Chrome Settings' "console". When giving "enter" the only reaction I get is "TypeError: Cannot call method 'append' of null" ... :(

@Blueresident87: GameSpot will have to do the permanent fix, but from looking at the code, people with the staff badge don't get this issue, so they might not have noticed.

You can put the line back in quickly by just hitting the up arrow and pressing enter to re-enter the last line you used in the console, so that helps a little.

Just so everyone knows, you can open the console in firefox by pressing CTRL + Shift + K. I inserted the same code as above and it works.

Why do we need to use Chrome to change our avatar. I use FireFox and IE and neither of the most popular browsers work. Like the old site, I still can't post comments on the reviews or news sites. Its ridiculous. Using IE, I couldn't even post on the forums. Kept saying "Page Error" at the bottom.

@Elk: Thank you, I put the entire line, $ included, but how do I save it after pasting it into? The line disappears right after closing the console/settings...

I concur. I'm not gonna go and download a browser I don't use just to fix this. But it's cool for people that use Chrome I guess.

This works for signatures too, but you have to enable signatures on the forum in your settings page.

It appears that your image will be scaled down to GS's specifications.

I figured it out. You have to leave the console panel open still when you click the buttons.

@Randolph: If you have the "Develop" bar in safari you should be able to open a console with CTRL+ALT+C (Show Error Console)

Okay, I'm not as computer savvy as ya'll. I only ever seem to get the console open when my cat walks across my keyboard, so how do I open the console?

@Ovirew: It's usually F12. Or put the cat back on the keyboard.

F12 isn't doing anything on Firefox.

@LJS9502_basic: Ahh, my bad. That's because I have something installed at my end that makes F12 work. Try CTRL + Shift + K.

@Elk: It won't work, I'm afraid--I can't even click "select image", nor upload images in a blog. Thank you anyway!

@LJS9502_basic: Enter is great, then just hit the image button. You'll have to do this again if you refresh or change the page.

aha, actually it isn't F12 I guess, but it's an option called 'inspect element'. I think that's it anyway. oO
