I really like it! It's lightning fast compared to the old one and it seems the new CSS makes the forum smoother (or maybe you just upgraded your servers). And lots of bug are fixed too :))

I really like the new layout. It gives you more room than those dinky little pictures you had before on the image slider.

However, on first load and sometimes subsequent loads (not necessarily related to clearing browser cache or disabling storage), the images don't load right away. In fact, it seems to take about 5-10 seconds. This doesn't sound like a long time, but count to ten in your head or intentionally put a break point in the script for ten seconds and you'll see what I'm experiencing.

I also get this error in the console:

    1. Resource interpreted as Image but transferred with MIME type text/plain

I couldn't seem to find the images in the markup, so I presume you're loading them from the javascript that's causing the error above. I didn't look in the js file to find out any more than that.

Other than that, it's a great design. Keep on improving!

It's nice, much better than the old one. One small thing though: IMO clicking the titles under the pictures should work as links as well.

Thanks @RazorGR. I was wondering the same thing myself yesterday. We will take a look at it.

I guess I'm the first naysayer. I dislike it, because I don't like really like splash pages. They're obnoxious to me.

Yes, the new home page is a helluva lot better--a lot quicker and less laggy. Now, just get the workin' on the rest of the site (profile pages, forums, etc).....;)

it looks pretty good and at first glance it looks more straight forward which i like. in terms of functionality however i find it is more useless to me as before. there is just too much there that i think shouldn't be on a homepage (walkthroughs, weekend updates?) and basic things like the latest news and a decent overview of latest content require me to search the page and click on things (hoover my mouse, whatever). overall i find myself just clicking on one of the tabs directly in stead of paying attention to what is going on on the homepage.

two other things: and i know these have been around for a while now but, i am also not a fan of these drop down menu's that appear mostly unwanted and get in the way of the page, if i want the menu then just let me click for it. another thing i noticed is that there seems to be no user created content on the homepage anymore. at one time there used to be direct links to selected blog entries. a quick glance of what's getting a lot of attention on the forums would be good too i think.

@JustPlainLucas,

What do you mean by splash pages? Do you mean you don't like any page who's goal is just to get you to another page (in contrast to a page with a story or a video)?

Thanks.

That's what I thought at first glance, but you have full Gamespot navigation from the home page, still. Regardless, do you still go to the home page when you visit Gamespot after all these years? ;) Boz

I agree. The new widget/module on Gamespot was blinding the first time I saw it. It takes away from everything else that I want to see. It reminded me of a less bad version of the University of Denver's new site that blinded me last year. Their second version that's currently being used is better.

My suggestion would be to have something that looks more like espn.com. It's a good example of a site that does a great job showing both the headlines/videos and top news stories all on the same line at the top of the page.

Lastly, the wasted space on the right side at the bottom of the page seems a little silly. For example, there doesn't seem to be an ad banner or any additional modules next to the article feed at the bottom of the page. It makes the right side look empty. I like scrolling through all the article headlines (don't eliminate the front page scrolling), but it seems like there's a lot of empty space that could be utilized better.

Am I missing something here?! A lot of useful stuff seems to have disappeared, like review ratings and release dates against games in the top 10 lists, the ability to view top rated games lists from previous 6 or 12 months etc? Is this stuff still available somewhere. The new home page looks great but form over function is a mistake in my opinion!

I like it too. It's an improvement over the last ones because it's more accessible. Nothing seems downplayed compared to the previous versions. That may have not been the intention, but that's the impression I got about those.

when I go to the system pages it no longer shows release date and what its rated without hovering over it thats a huge pain.. the last two page changes of the new website is pretty much terrible.. who is making these changes and thinks they are good? As a website designer myself the number one thing is to make the site easy to use this is getting harder and harder.. may have to just switch to ign all together.

Hey Guys,

We're working on adding back the review scores on released games and release dates on upcoming games (without requiring a mouse-over).

@Gloridel,

Did you see the "Top Rated" tab in the Top 10 Games section? Is this what you are looking for in terms of highest recent ratings? Was there something else that is missing?

Thanks.

Nice new banner. It feels like there might be too much space between the Gamespot logo and the links under it now, though.

Agreeing with this. For what I see the gamespot logo is on top of that bar in between two different shades and it makes the site look really weird plus the facebook + google + twitter buttons clash too much with the site. I don't mind having them but it would be great if they could be fixed.

Personally not a fan of the new banner, but it isn't something that adblock wasn't able to fix.

Definitely digging the new home page though.

Have you already switched it? That's not bad. I prefer it to watching the entire video for a final score. Instead of that, I can see the score now and read the full review or watch the video for justification of it if I choose to.

Not yet. The scores and release dates were always there when you moused over a game. We are looking at ways to make them visible in the list, without needing to mouse over.

For the first time in ten years I find myself going to Gamespot.com rather than a sub page like my own profile or the forums when I visit Gamespot. I'd still like the Soapbox back - it really seems that blogging has died down without it - but otherwise I love it. Boz

Okay. Actually, I misunderstood what you meant and thought the reviews page was also like the main page. I rarely look at the main page when I get on the site and instead go straight to the forums. Rushing into a judgement was my mistake. Sorry about that. Now that I see what you're talking about, it doesn't seem bad. However, this is just from a laymen's view. I'm willing to admit that I'm not very skilled in web design as of now.
