Why was I banned?

I had an account (BoxRekt) that had my email associated tampered with an locked and I could not remember the password to access nor could I reset because the email I can no longer access.

I created BoxRekt2 because I am the same person only unable to access the original account. I explained this to a few users who asked and want not trying to mislead anyone into thinking I was someone else.

Moderator xantufrog came into a thread I made and said: "How about we leave the thread creation to people who actually want to use the site"

https://www.gamespot.com/forums/system-wars-314159282/new-insider-confirms-ps5s-power-spy-infiltrated-ps-33459144/

After this comment he locked that thread and then sent me a private message saying, "no impersonation accounts", and then BANNED me!

I wasn't given a chance to explain the situation and the comment made to me in the thread was rude and confusing. Maybe some people didn't like the content of my thread or were trying to suggest that my original account had got banned and reported that but my original account wasn't banned however I wasn't asked about anything before action was taken.

@newmanagement: Hi there. We actually don't allow users to create extra accounts without permission from the community team, and it is also worth noting that the code of conduct has a rule against creating accounts to impersonate another user or member of staff. It seems your account was banned for the latter.

If you can't get into your original account you will need to privately contact the moderation team (Click here) and we can discuss how you want to move forwards with this.

I will leave your current account open for now so you can do this.

"the code of conduct has a rule against creating accounts to impersonate another user or member of staff. It seems your account was banned for the latter."

But as I explained in my original post, I didn't "impersonate" another user. So banning me was an error of because the action was taken before speaking to me.

I'll try to use yahoo account tech team to try to recover my original account. I am here because I was trying to inform the team that I am NOT impersonating another user.

The biggest thing was not talking to me and asking about my situation and without communication *banning* an account instead of finding out if it was indeed what was assumed to be another person to start with. My point being is I should not have a been banned at all.

@newmanagement: Due to a number of issues caused by users creating similar accounts to existing ones, we blanket ban any account that appears to be impersonating another user. It is at the moderators discretion to contact a user found doing so.

We however have no issue with people creating accounts to contact us for help. Which should have been your first course of action. If as I suggested you contact us via the mod PM, we may be able to get you back into your account. For security reasons we'll have to confirm some details.

Your other route is as you said, contacting the email provider to try getting your email account back.

Banning the second account wasn't an error because as Zanelli also said creating multiple accounts is against the rules, not just creating multiple accounts for the purposes of impersonation. While Xantu may have incorrectly thought the purpose of your account was for impersonation, he wasn't wrong that it was an alt. You're only allowed to have one account at a time and to my knowledge you didn't tell us about this situation until after your second account got banned.

That said, provided you are acting in good faith we can help you out. Now that you've reached out we can offer two solutions. We can unban your second account and ban the rest, leaving you with one account, or we can try to work with Staff to get the email address of your original account changed. The prior option is in control of the mod team and is something any of us can help you with. The latter may take longer because Staff is also busy running the site so I can't give you an estimate as to the turnaround time on a response.

After messing around with tech support all day I was finally able to get my original email sorted out so I was able to reset the password to get back into it.

How will my other account being banned affect this one if at all? I do not want to be penalized because the other account banned.

@boxrekt: Excellent to hear you managed to get that sorted.

The banned account will have no impact on your main account. I will now also close the new one you first contacted us with in this thread.

You should be good to go.
