User Rating: 8 | Formula One Championship Edition PS3
Formula One Championship Edition is the latest addition to the long running F1 motorsport game series based on the 2006 season Fernando Alonso's 2nd title winning season and Michael Schumacher's final season

F1CE is a great racing simulation game. It displays a really satisfying racing experience with great sound to occupy the distinctive cry of an F1 car revving up for the first corner and propelling past an opponent. The stylish graphics suit the glamour side of Formula 1 with glossy cars, gorgeous pit girls and glorious locations. The graphics of drivers are improved despite still being rather naff (the champagne spray being the notable flaw of the driver graphics).

F1CE as an online experience is very enjoyable with the option to play against up to 11 players, scaling all over the world and competing with the promise of online racers. Career mode is a chance for you to strap in and sit tight in an F1 car and go from a test driver for MF1 or Super Aguri to the first driver for title winners in Ferrari, McClaren and Renault over a period of 5 seasons. It's a realistic driving experience for any keen racing fan. The only flaw admittedly with the career mode is the trials you do in order to secure a driver's seat at a team. The tests are not only a bit boring but they occur at sunset so the race track is fairly dark so corners are harder to perfect and the sun on the track shining straight in your face makes it harder to drive without worrying if you'll go off because you cannot see.
World Championship mode is the opportunity for you to select a driver out of the 2006 F1 roster to drive for the whole season in a bid to win the F1 world championship. This can be both easy and hard depending on what game settings you have it on. Car damage makes it harder because you have to restrict your overtaking a little bit to avoid colliding with the opponent cars otherwise a front wing or tyre knocks off and you retire from the race. This can be admittedly rather frustrating. Penalties aren't as frustrating, restricting your lap time and not recording it isn't as bad as perhaps it is in real life.
One final flaw is the frustration in that despite being released during the 2007 season they used the 2006 season rosters meaning the opportunity to drive new F1 debutants in Lewis Hamilton, Robert Kubica, Adrian Sutil and Heikki Kovalainen will have to wait until F109 on the PSP and F12010 for the PS3. It means that despite Yuji Ide and Juan Pablo Montoya leaving during the F1 06 season they are still drivers in the game.
These flaws aside. F1CE is a great racing simullation of the highly successful and amazing motorsport that is Formula 1. It's a great driving experience for F1 fans and racing fans alike.
