This one gets points for being a fresh and original game, this is not a franchise game meaning it is not a repeat of the success of previous games. It stands on it's own and is sadly not as noticed as it should be. The story starts off with a mystery for both of the two main playable characters, whom you can switch between during game play to see the story from each characters point of view. Ellen who is looking for her mother, and Keats a mystery magazine reporter looking for a mysterious woman who calls him.

Regardless of previous reviews, the voice acting is actually quite superb in this game. The fact they may at times sound silly is actually because the folks are intended to sound silly.

The magic of the world is quite different than any other game I have seen and Folklore proves to be one of only a handful of games to actually utilize the dual axis controls of the ps3 controller. The special effects are awesome and I am a very cruel judge when it comes to graphics. However one half point was taken away for the use of comic book strip style scenes instead of cgi, which I would have preferred. The comic style scene seem to mess up the flow of the game, it just isn't logical to be honest. The few scenes that were cgi were fantastic.

The battle system is completely original the enemies were interesting, and how and with whom you battle is pretty interesting. Your folks level up if you follow the requisites. One half point was taken away for repetitiveness in battle, because it is quite repeatative, like games such as Final Fantasy, but it is necessary to level the folks you fight with.

You are able to not only search the Netherworld, but also to search and interact with the living in the town of Doolin. I did take one half point away because although you do talk to them and they can help you on your quests, it seems that a majority of the space and graphics are wasted you do very little in the town, and can't really search anything interesting, you can only search for what you're looking for.

Last but not least one half point was taken away for confounding aspects of the story-line. I hate to say it but many Japanese written story-lines lack a logic expected of American players, this is true in both games and movies. I find that although it doesn't ruin the story-line as a whole some aspects seem illogical and confusing pertaining to the netherworld and it's inhabitants.

Overall a game worth playing and having fun with and one of the only original ps3 titles available.
