Compaired to the "Smackdown Vs. Raw" series, it's actually a lot better, even if it is 2D...

User Rating: 8 | Fi-Pro Returns PS2
I remember playing the original SNES version of this game, which was not the most impressive wrstling game at the time. But now that this game is out for PS2, I have to say I am really impressed with it. It's still the classic 2D style in the classic Isometric ring view. YOu may not think that in this day in age, 2D wouldn't still be around, but it is.

GRAPHICS
=========
Okay, not the most impressive way to make a game. I would have half expected to have some kind of 3D gameplay, but that is completely not the case. I don't even think there's a single 3D element in this game at all with the exception of how the ring looks, but then that might just be programming style to change the layering based on the characters location on the screen. I will say they gave a lot of thought to colors, style and character developement. A lot of the characters are well designed and well setup. The animations are pretty smooth but you can still tell it's 2D in most cases. Sadly it is 2D, but you might not count this game out yet.

CONTROL
=========
A lot of the controls are pretty simple to figure out, it's just knowing the moves and knowing what to press, and mostly importantly, the timing, the timing is most important in this game. Course the other part is knowing what moves each character has. Not everyone has the moves you might want. The major plus to this game is that you can design your own stuff. Belts, characters, rings, referees, groups, even design your own league of characters to be on your team. What's really cool is that you can design up to 500 of your own characters and as many belts and you would like. There's even a draw program to design your own logos and icons. The only downside is that you would have to use the controls to design and draw, not exactly easy if you are used to using the computer to draw. Pretty must everything can be edited or designed to your specs. Once you figure out how make and design your own characters, you have a HUGE selection of options to choose from. Over 500+ heads to choose from, hundreds of moves and attacks to choose, even modify the characters stats and abilities. Even rename the finishing move for your character. Overall, there's a lot of options to mess with and a ton of variety to the game, so it's not so boring everytime.

OVERALL
========
One of the cool things about this game is that they already have a set of premade famous characters that we are all familiar with. (Okay, they are not the same names, but that may have been due to copyright laws, but the idea is there.) If you look under AWG league, you will see such famous wrestlers as Andre The Giant, Sting, Razor Ramon, the original Road Warriors (Also known as Legion Of Doom in WWF, Hawk & Animal), Abdullah The Butcher (With his famous FORK attack), and some others. The game even includesa few (Mocked up, some cases touched up) famous theme songs such as Stone Cold Steve Austin's intro music, Hulk Hogan's theme, Kane's theme music, as well as 50+ more theme music to choose from. There is a lot of variety to this game so you will be able to make just about any character you need. And with the ability to make 500 characters to add to the 300+ wrestlers, you will be able to have a huge list to add to your collection. Overall though, this game is more for wrestling fans rather than gamers. This game is also for people who like to design characters, regardless of what kind of game it is. Plus, if you liked the older Fire Pro Wrestling game, then this is a gamers delight for sure.
