Hmm? Not bad...

User Rating: 8.5 | Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings DS
I've never been into the Real Time Strategy genre but since this was suppose to kind of be a sequal to FFXII, I decided to open my mind and give it a chance. This game isn't that bad. It once again lacked a good story but oh what the hell. The coolest part was being able to have Ba'Ganman (Balthier's arch rival) in your party...well for at least awhile. There are lots of bonus content to explore and unlock as well. It feels like another attempt by Square Enix to test the waters of a different genre and to use a well liked game as a safety net. Its not a bad strategy actual but I'm just saying though...

My Breakdown:

What's Good:

- Great attempt by SE to move into different genre
- The game makes good use of the DS' dual screens. Requires the use of the stylist
- Familar characters in a new story and setting
- Getting new party members
- Seeing other Sky Pirates as familiar FFTA sprites
- New races
- "New/familar" summons
- Alternate designes of well known FF creatures
- The Animated sequences are good for the DS' capabilities

What's Not-So-Good:

- You can't keep Ba'Ganman!!!
- The difficulty of the game can get overwhelming at times (especially towards the end)

What's Bad:

- The story is kind of lame

In all, this isn't a bad game and Vaan even redeems himself a little as being such a sucky main character in FFXII. This game is worth playing for anyone who liked the original FFXII.
