Final Fantasy X is one of the best in the FF series, and it's certainly one of the best Role Playing Games on the PS2...

User Rating: 9.5 | Final Fantasy X (Mega Hits!) PS2
As soon as Final Fantasy loads up when you press New Game you know you're going to be in for an epic story, with characters that you can really connect to and a visual treat for the eyes. The game opens up with the main character Tidus playing Blitzball - a cross between water polo and american football.

You're then thrown into the action as sin (what can be described only as a giant whale which spawns bad guys ) attacks your city of Zanarkand. You're taught the basics by another main character Auron, before you are thrown into the future after battling a few monsters. Sounds Confusing? initially it is, but after this rush of story telling and confoundment at the beginning, Final Fantasy finally slows down and this is where the game starts to shine.

The story itself is magnificent, full of plot twists and a variety of characters, the amount of work gone into character development and supporting cast really shines. Each NPC has at least two lines to say about every situation, which doesn't sound like much but considering the vast amount of characters to be found, from pedestrians to supporters of blitzball in the stadium, leads to highly immersive, and highly believable game.

The combat system in Final Fantasy X has been refined and tweaked to offer on the whole and more complex and more exciting combat experience. Now being turn based, you can choose what move you want to do without being rushed, unlike FFVII where you had to rush your decisions due to your opponents iminent strike. you can also affect the order with your attacks, if you choose a quick attack, you may have the chance to attack again.

The Final Fantasy world is expansive, all sorts of enviroments can be found, from the artic enviroments where the Guado characters can be found, to the desert where you're cast of characters find themselves after a particularly strenous battle against a gargantuan boss.

The graphics in Final Fantasy are by far the best Graphics i have seen on the PS2, they really show what the PS2 can accomplish when pressed and the facial expressions of the characters are also great. The graphics help make this game so immersive, from the little suprise on Tidus' face as he finds out something new about this world, the beautiful backdrops you will find throughout the game,

The bosses themselves are also brilliant, each one different and with a wide range of attacks, meaning that you may be attempting battles once or twice to learn their attack patterns. This can be considered FFX's greatest weakness, the fact that some bosses are impossible if you're not a high enough level party, you have to backtrack and train up and buy new equipment, which causes further frustration as it adds on time to you're already extensive journey through the world of Spira.

Overall Final Fantasy is a game not to be missed, it's brilliant story, combat and setting makes it a game that you need to play, if you have the time to invest in what can only be described as a masterpiece to do it justice. Square Enix really did themselves proud with their first venture on the PS2, showing all those RPG haters and PS2 doubters, that without a doubt, Final Fantasy X is the game to own.
