The most overrated, under delivering, scaled back RPG of all time

User Rating: 7.4 | Final Fantasy VII PS
They should have called it Final Fantasy: Junior. I enjoyed the game, I will never deny that but it brought RPG's to a level they never should have been at, the Final Fantasy series sold a part of its soul to become mainstream. This game is a muted RPG, it has scaled back most aspects that made other RPG's like The Dragon Warriors, and the Mothers (or Earthbounds) and other great RPG's. This game in a word is easy, through three discs I never died once I was never under prepared for a battle no matter how little I built up, Gold was almost handed to me at every turn and the call spells were too powerful and made the game a cakewalk, and most of the "quests" were long for the sake of long, The storyline in a word was predictable in the worst way, there was little to suprise me, and even the "Big Twist" was something most gamers should have seen coming for miles. Perhaps I am being to harsh on this game, because it is a game that by some right could be seens as a servicable title and did alot to help Square, but as a Final Fantasy title it was the beginning of the end. If you are a new gamer, and you want to get started on RPG's by all means give this game a try, its very easy to get into each level is very straight forward there is not alot of puzzle solving because its pretty straight forward, what you have to do next is never an issue of debate you always know its right there. For the seasoned old school RPG gamer, its simple. If you want a game that will give you 40 hrs, give you a bunch of side quests and will fill time with an average storyline its worth the pick up, if you are looking for something to rival North America's FF2 or FF3, look elsewhere. -Z
