FFIX was a breath of fresh air after FFVII and FFVIII's rather depressing characters and heavy steampunk influences. I was glad to hear Squaresoft taking the FF series back into the fantasy world. The story is rather interesting and the characters here are much more livelier than the previous two games on the PSX. But the gameplay remains pretty similar to the past FF games which is my only disappointment. After playing FFVII and VIII, FFIX felt a little old. Also, the inconsistent storyline that plagued the previous two installments also existed in this game. But it's better here. I can't say there are any memorable sequences that sticks out in this installment. The overall game had its moments and the characters are much more likeable here than say, FVIII. Some of the dialogue is really well written and the interactions between characters are fun. There's a lot of chemistry here that is reminiscent of the characters in FFIV and FFVI. If you enjoyed the classic SNES FF games then FFIX will make you feel right at home.
