A great addition to the series and a fun game whether you're a die hard soccer fan or not.

Fifa 10 is by far the best game in the lineage of soccer games. It has continued to progress from last year with new features and game modes that make it engrossing right when you get it, and continue the fun factor for hours of gameplay.
There are a lot of new features in Fifa 10 that make it a great addition to the series. Mainly in terms of game modes that have been added or revised and built on from Fifa 09. The most basic game mode is the Be A Pro mode. This game mode has become a fixture of many sports games, especially EA Sports, since the success of their first one in the NHL series. The Fifa be a pro is the standard game mode; you create your personalized soccer player to bring up through the ranks and grow as a player. You can choose to play either as the whole team or just your specific player, which in my opinion can get a little boring, but it's your decision.
The main dynasty mode is called Manager Mode. In this mode you manage a club of your choice, everything from setting ticket prices and stadium management, to scouting and signing players. Although the work between games can become large since you're managing every facet of your team, the payoff is worth it when you build a team of young recruits that you personally scouted. After a few games you also learn the ins and outs of the mode and learn what is really essential to track from game to game, and what you can afford to skip sometimes. One great feature of Fifa 10 is that you can build your be a pro character through manager mode. You just place your be a pro on the team you want to manage and then while you play each game your character grows based on in game achievements that the game lays out. This is perfect since it gives you a reason to keep playing the game to not only build a successful dynasty, but also to make your character as much as you can.
The other two game modes are interesting as well. There is the Live Season 2.0 mode where you play the exact schedule your club did in and real life and the game compares the results. That is fun if you're a diehard soccer fan because you'll be following your real life club at the same time you play the games yourself.
The other game mode is Ultimate Team. This is a really unique game mode that I think is brilliant. You start with a basic team and you have to earn coins in order to buy better players and make your squad progress. What this does is provide an incentive to play the game for long hours, which sports games sometimes don't have. You can auction your players off and buy from other people as well, making it extremely interactive.
Fifa 10 really stands alone as the best in the series because of the gameplay. It is fluid and very intuitive and the control scheme that they use takes a little time to get used to, but once you do can be very powerful. What I like most about Fifa is that it does take legitimate skill to pull off intricate moves in game experiences. Some games a new player can come in and just mash the sticks, but Fifa is not like that. It's a game of finesse, control and patience and rewards you for really taking your time and planning a good attack. It is always satisfying to pick apart a defense for a perfectly executed goal as well.
Overall, I rated Fifa 10 and 9/10 for all the reasons above - great game modes and gameplay. There are the extras that I always look for in a game like commentary and soundtrack as well. The commentary is solid, sometimes a little delayed or repetitive, but interesting. The soundtrack is amazing. They have a blend of different styles and different countries. It is a treat to browse the menus with the music in the background. But again, these are small things, the gameplay is what keeps this game amazing. I would absolutely recommend this game for any sports fan, however if you're reading this in late July, I would hold out and wait for the installment of Fifa 11 in 2 months or so, it would be worth it.
