User Rating: 8.9 | Project Zero II: Crimson Butterfly PS2
A lot of people love horror because they like to be scared. It gives them a rush. Some people do not like horror because they're mainly scared ..to be scared. Fatal Frame is a series of games that scare you. This series is based around the paranormal. In Fatal Frame II Crimson Butterfly you will be playing has Mio and seldom play as Mayu. Which just happen to be twins. They end up in a village called All God's Village. At some point Mayu runs off, leaving Mio behind. From this point you're mainly looking for Mayu. You go through all the houses and building looking for her. She also tends to disappear as soon as your are going get to her. This game is based on a ritual that is taking place. Sae a ghost searching for her sister Yae that left her behind. Sae talks to Mayu and sort of possesses her. In this game you will be going through houses, chasing ghost, upgrading the almighty polaroid camera of doom and destruction, and chasing Mayu. Since it's a ghost game, of course it has ghosts and plenty of them. From crazy women with scratches on their face to little ghost brats playing tag with you. My personal favorite ghost in the Fallen Woman, she falls on the ground from somewhere higher up and crawls on her broken limbs. This game might have the saddest of the Fatal Frame games. I'd like to tell you why but no spoilers in this review. This game doesn't disappoint. It's full of action, dramatic cutscenes and creepy atmospheric music. Now I shall get to the essential elements of a review.

Gameplay - Fatal Frame is a 3rd person horror title. With one weapon.. and that weapon is an old camera. Yup, the great Camera Obscura. It's not just some old disposable camera. This camera can upgrade through spirit orbs and you can equip new lens and film for greater exorcism power. The controls are easy to get used to and easy to learn. Mio runs sort of slow but you get around. Mayu limps.. it's funny watching her stumble around. There's file reading, door opening and puzzles also in this game. The puzzles are fairly simple, nothing to much to give you a headache. The camera also can do a thing called a fatal frame which is like the special move of the camera. This deal plenty of damage and gives you a chance to land combos on the ghosts. The gameplay gets a reasonable eight out of ten.

Graphics - This game is graphically beautiful. Scary atmosphere, with use of fog, lighting, and prerendered delight. Cutscenes are well polished and look great! It has great detail on about everything in the game. Graphics could probably a tad bit better but I think they look great and no change is necessarily needed. The graphics get a nine out of ten.

Sound - Fatal Frame II has wonderful sound. Couldn't be better for this game. Creepy music during game play which is a must for these types of games. This game nailed the sound perfectly in my opinion. Even during the final cutscene and through the credits a sad but yet nice sounding Japanese song. The sound gets a deserved ten out of ten.

Value - After you finish the game you get some extras that can help in game and some great looking images. This game has a great amount of value and reason for you to buy this. I can't say an average time length of this game but let's just say around ten hours of horror for you. The value of this game gets a ten out of ten as well.

Conclusion - Basically if you're a fan of horror/survival horror games this game is a great addition to your collection. Filled with plenty of suspense and ghostly fun for hours of enjoyment. This game will make you jump and you will still want more. This game has a great story, that gets you to know the characters and get into the game even more. I highly recommend this game to anyone who is open to any game, or love horror.
